Hey all I recently purchased my first Ducati Monster S2R 800 2006. It has 19,700 on it and from I researched I got it for a fair price. The bike has some mods done to it like a full Arrow Exhaust and K&N air filter with no chop on the air box. the rest seems to be cosmetic mods. My question is - I read that the bike needs to be "mapped?" when air intake and exhaust mods are done. The Bike does not run lean / hot but how do I know if the bike has had and upgrade on the mapping? Also are there any other mods that are not cosmetic that are "must haves" with this bike? Headlight seems dim at night also... Thanks in advance!!

1) Find your local Ducati specialist and make an appointment for full service. (run the bike on the dyno if possible.)

2) Download your bike’s service manual and owner’s manual.
Look at the periodic maintenance chart. If the budget won’t allow you to get full service, you can do certain things by yourself, and ask the shop to do thing beyond your capability.

3) Check the tire manufacturing date. If they are more than a few years old, discard them and buy a set of new tires.
When the wheels are off, it is a good time to clean the brake calipers. (Also, inspect the pads and rotors.)
The tires and the brake system are the first things to check when buying a used bike.

4) Buy chain grunge brush and eccentric chain adjuster tool. Clean and adjust the chain.

5) Replace all the fluid. (including fork oil, not just engine oil and brake fluid.)

6) Adjust and set up the suspension for your weight and preference.

I may be forgetting a thing or two, I’m just about to go to the bed.
Anyhow, do the basic things first, before talking about “ essential mod” kind of stuff.

Because if you don’t know the current condition of your bike, you have no idea what you will need.
(For example, a lot of people who talk about the necessity of the steering damper (for the street bike) actually don’t check the tires(air pressure and tread wear), front forks and rear suspension set up / internal problems, wheel bearings and steering head bearings, wrong riding posture, etc. They just try to “solve” the problem with add on parts which will only “mask” the problem. )

Thanks for the advice! I have checked out the items mentioned. I'd like to upgrade the headlight power and clean up some of the wires.

Hollisatp1

So far I have removed the breather tank. Are there any other quick or relatively easy ways to clean up some of the wires and tubes?

Pinion

You can spend some time moving and re routing, and get a bit cleaner. removing airbox is a wonderful way to really clean up

But be careful, once you start, this could happen

Thanks. I plan on getting the filters and stacks very soon. What about non needed items or items I can buy a bypass switch for? Like the kickstand switch? Breather hose from the gas tank?

Pinion

leave the kickstand switch, tank vents just need air so they don't lock ouk in the tanks. Hoses are good if there is overflow.

Suburban Machinery bars !!! a must have for any Monster

14t front sprocket

You have the same bike as myself ...If there is not an open lid on the air box ..no need to remap , because all you have changed is the exhaust.

if open lid you will need a power commander

Also SEAL THE TANK !!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the info. I think I'd like to get the filters and Ecu together. Is Dynojet the best one?
Pinion - why not remove the kickstand switch?
Ute - I have a 14 tooth front. I just looked and saw that removing the air box does get rid of a bunch of tubes.
Anyone have a favorite for the timing belt clear covers?

Hollisatp1

Sorry. Also what do you mean about dealing te fuel tank?

For clear covers ..make your own really easy to do .....but I have been running coverless for about 4 years now with no issues

And power commander is the best ..but you will have to have it Dyno'd to get a map

Got it. What all needs to be purchased to put the clam on handles in?
