This was after things died down a bit and the black smoke was gone.

A transformer out back went off and the oil inside lit.  It was spraying out of the relief valve.  8 feet of fire out the top lit the roof and it went from there.

Smoke inside my shop

Transformer in the middle was the cause

One of the spaces directly under thr roof fire.  They had no insurance.

And the next morning-

Went up on the roof with my landlord and got these shots.  It's pretty much like Silent Hill up there.  The rubber roof was the equivalent of the Spingfield tire fire on the Simpsons.  We're pretty near Lake Erie and had reports from boaters 6 miles out that could see the smoke.  What remains is insulation (fire retardant I guess)  There was really not much damage to the lumbar roof deck so that's good.  The old school factory windows you see will probably end up blocked over.

The yellowish diagonal line you see here is a high pressure natural gas line.  How that didn't become "interesting" I'll never know.  It was right in the middle of the fire.

The water tower holds 150,000 gallons and they cashed it in 12 minutes.  Then there are 3 big wells that supply the entire town, they cashed those as well.  They had trucks sucking water from ponds and bringing it in.  They used all the water in Girard.  All of it.  Residents had no water after this until the wells recovered.

I climbed up onto one of the silos to get this shot of the roof

Does your shop share any of those upper windows?

Also, is there a target date for the power to be returned?

It's like I keep saying:  Those who would sacrifice a free range session for a giant beer, deserve neither free range time nor a giant beer.

I don't share anything with that part of the building.

No date as of yet.

2 million?

That's it?!?

Damn. You'd think after the first million someone would be saying "just let it burn"

I'm happy to hear your shop was spared; are you up and running, or do you have to wait on the roof & electrical?
