I've seen photos that captured some of this, but watching Marquez in slow motion gave me a new appreciation for how close to the razor's edge he keeps that Honda.

Yes he would.

But his high-sides would be even more amazing!  He could probably send himself into orbit. 

A lot of his amazing sliding control is due to the electronics.  Take the electronics away and that balancing act on the ragged edge gets a lot less predicable.

I'm not saying he couldn't do it but it could be painful for him during the learning curve.

In the full-speed video I've seen of both riders (and others), the back wheel spin is damned impressive, but something my brain can wrap itself around. Slowed down though, it's staggering to me just how much front wheel movement they're getting. That stuff freaks me out. 

It's particularly pronounced with the video of Marquez, though that may be less about the rider and more about the difference between the Bridgestone & Michelin fronts.

Interesting parallels in style for sure. It gives the impression that the bike set up data left by Stoner was a good baseline for Marquez, compared to say Pedrosa's set up.

I think so, absolutely.

I didn't really realize until now, watching Stoner's body position, how similar it is to Marquez's.
Somehow, Marquez's position just looks *right*, natural and comfortable, nothing awkward about it.

His repeated refusal to crash after totally folding the front still makes me shout. 

I thought he was a little shit when he arrived at Moto GP, but I'm a big fan of the cheeky little bugger. I guess we need to give kids the lattitude to grow up.

I saw a slow motion sequence of his in one of the last few races in 2016 where, coming into a turn, he's on the brakes, rear wheel off the ground, and with all that going on he then leans into the turn on the front wheel. That seemed to be magic. How he didn't wash the front out is beyond me.
