He goes back to his mom today. Then I dog sit Caly, my friends dog, the ones that take Lucy out all the time. Her front left paw was operated on.

No snow here, just more rain. The ground all around me is supersaturated.

replace it with a regular bolt, it will never break again...well at least not that part 

Misdiagnosed... gear box is junk. Input shaft turns, augers don't. What do I expect for 20 bucks?

I used it all winter. I only had to put a belt on it. It doesn't owe me anything.

I rebuilt one of those-it was some weird rubber piece inside that made things turn. Cost about $12 to replace and it worked fine. YMMV.

This thing has no id tag. It's an old Craftsman and parts are difficult to get. The thing is constantly throwing tracks too. I'm gonna hope we don't get another big storm and look for a new/er one.

I think what took out the gearbox was a chuck of asphalt. When we took the house down we tore up the 'paved' driveway the town was taxing me on and spread it out on the driveway to the new house and mixed it in with the excavator. Worked great where the cars packed it in, but it's still loose in the center. Shear bolt fail...worm gear fail...I'm thinking.  I heard the governor kick in and then it started packing snow in the auger housing.
