Anyone know what the metal thumb "doodad" directly below the off button is. I know the rear thumb brake is on the other handlebar.

It's a neutral lockout, sequential transmissions have neutral at the bottom.

The KD90 that I learned to ride on had neutral at the bottom.

All good until I went for one downshift too many.

I can't picture how that works.

Why are there 2 reservoirs on the clutch side?

They just 'swap' the 1st and Neutral groove profiles on the shift drum.

One for clutch, one for rear thumb brake.

So they roll up to the grid, once the flagman comes off the track you put it in gear, lights come on and press the lockout?

AFAIK, pushing the lever allows for shifting from 1st to neutral.
Otherwise the same rider interface as a conventional transmission as far as shifting goes.
