The original 1/2 hp disposal (guessing about 10-18 y/o) is leaking water from the bottom of the machine.  If I can get the photo to post, the water is coming from above/next to the red reset button.

Either I can't get any image or I get multiple.   make the beast with two backs it.  Two it is.   [laugh]    Annnnd she fixed it!  (The image, not the disposal.)

Get rid of it. No food should be going down the drain; it just causes issues for the downstream wastewater treatment.

+1 for the Waste King from Amazon.  Have it in 4 of my units without issues.

I ditched the disposal completely.

After a lot of youtubing and trying to configure white plastic part pieces, I realized I have an unconventional set up already so I had to figure out what I thought I needed (w/o rearranging to make it conventional).  Went to the hardware store and lo and behold, they make things that I imagined (thank dog).

Got it all installed and so far, no leaks and water stays in the sink.    I'll miss the convenience of the disposal but it made sense for me to get rid of it.

Yep, start composting.

Stella

That's the eventual intent but for someone else's benefit initially (garden & chickens).  I'm in a condo so can't easily reap the rewards of composting.  Yet.

Proper choice. Garbage disposals are the tool of the devil.

and then they get fish tank rocks in them...... :P
Never wrestle with pigs. You both get dirty, and the pigs like it...

Yep, start composting.

Problem solved with the inability to compost myself.  Sent a message to the local neighborhood social media page and had a few people close by gladly allow me to bring my scraps to their compost pile.

If I'm really lucky, they'll get back with me later in the season offering bounty from their gardens   ;)
