My Uncle John McKay, RCAF (RIP) and his WWII Spitfire.   He was decorated in WWII for shooting down a Luftwaffe jet along with a few of his mates, all flying Spitfires.

Visiting him years ago in his Canadian home, I took a book out of his bookcase, titled something like "History of the RCAF in WWII."  A folded piece of paper was between the pages.   It was one of his DFC citations;  his squadron engaged with the Luftwaffe and he ran out of ammunition.  Not letting his lack of firepower stop hhim, he got on the tail of a German fighter and managed to fly him into the ground.   Then he went back up, got on the tail of another German and flew him into the ground!  I would not have known this had I not chanced upon his citation, he never mentioned any of it.

He later flew an F86 with the UN Forces  in Korea.
