Hiya all.   

Just curious about a 2004 S4R I saw.  Tons of carbon fiber, wheels too. It has less that 650 miles on it. It's basically new. It runs and seller says it's strong. He just filled the tank to get it going after all this time. Been sitting as a display at a business for years. Assuming the gas tank is clean, tires need replacing, [belts too?], rotors look a little rusty and need to change all fluids, ....  what issues could a buyer expect to find from sitting for so long?

Any idea what suspension was stock on this bike?   Sachs?  I can't exactly tell from the photo but I don't see an external reservoir for the rear shock ala Ohlins

I love my '01 S model but I still look around and could be tempted....maybe.  power. POWER. POWER!

Definitely belts!  Factory rear was Showa with external reservoir.  Rotors, if OEM are stainless so they might clean up.  Buying any bike that old is unknown until started and ridden so budget for the unexpected.

Thanks Howie.   I looked at a earlier posting re: Hazards of Being a Garage Potato  and saw photos of how 8 years of being stored with cooling fluid can create some corrosion issues.  What about the suspension system?  If the bike was stored for, let's say, 15 years, give or take, could that create issues?
Can you think of anything else specifically I should ask this guy about this bike that's been sitting as a office decoration for so darn long.
I'm just wondering.

My advice is, if you choose to buy the bike, tires, belts, fluids and fresh fuel with filter.   Ride with caution for a while.  Stay in the 'hood.  See how it shakes out before spending big bucks.
