Hi all,

I've got a 1999 M900 and the instrument cluster has no tachometer.  I'm looking into getting something that has one.  Monster clusters on ebay that include them are going for $250 and up (ouch).  I'm seeing a ton of cheapo electronic dashes online that claim to be universal for around $50.  Does anybody have any experience rigging one of these up?  I haven't dug too much into it yet, but I presume the tach is measured using electronic pulses from the CDI or somewhere?  Any insights appreciated, thanks

I honestly couldn't recommended anything that cheap that I've seen.

+1.

Generally speaking, anything "electrical" and "cheap" aftermarket parts are, at some point, turns into a nightmare.
When you have trouble with the products, three's no support, you will be on your own.

So, let me ask you WHY  do you want the tachometer?

Do you REALLY NEED tach?
In other words, do you constantly rev your engine that high?
Your Monster doesn't have rev limiter, so, if that's the case, I understand the "need".

If you are thinking to add tachometer for the looks, forget it.
You are spending unnecessary money on unnecessary thing.
You are wasting your money, and adding unreliable parts that doesn't improve or enhance anything, but gives you potential problem.

IF, I mean IF ... you still feel like you really need rev-counter, ....

I personally recommend "Auto Meter" 's shift light.

This one works really well for your situation.

DPSS shift light, $154.

I have used their products many, many times on cars, , tucks, motorcycles ...

The price is too steep for you?

I've used this device. Very simple. You can use adhesive to sit it above the dash lights. It's in Aussie dollars so not so expensive as it seems.
