I've been smoking for the last 7-8 yrs, and drinking religiously for the last 5yrs or so.

My friends and family don't like the smoking.

I don't think I have a problem drinking, but my friends think so.

So whatever, it will be better in the long run, and "should" save me money also.

This is gonna suck, and and I'm probably going to be very unpleasant for a while  [bang] , but hey, their the ones that will have to deal with it.  [evil]

Anyone have any good advise?

oh sorry you wanted good advice...

You are basically talking about a lifestyle change here.  Don't plan on hanging out with any friends who drink/smoke (at least for awhile), or at any bars, etc.

Start exercising, maybe jogging everyday, if you don't already.

Conrad, I will do my utmost to help you.

With that in mind, I will be by around 7 PM tomorrow night to take your entire liquor collection.

It's for your own good.
If the state had not cut funding for the mental institutions, this project could never have happened.

I forgot to mention: 8/11 is my quit date.  IF...there's anything left by then, you're more than welcome.   [thumbsup]

FYI:  It's almost all gone.   [laugh]  [wine]

Thanks!

I have a problem sleeping (probably why I drink), and have factored exercising in if necessary to help me sleep better.

Smoking also goes a long way to destroying your sleep habits.  I basically quit drinking about 6-7 years ago and I've been "smober" for the last 18 months.  I do exercise, but I've always done that.  Thing is, if you're quitting because your friends and family think you should, you're gonna resent them and you're more than likely going to fail.  Until you're ready and you actually WANT to quit, not much is gonna help you.

All that said though - good luck.

Almost everyone I know that has quit smoking and drinking...

is dead.

I wouldn't do it if I were you.

Did they quit before or after?

you cant quit something if your dead.  :P

I am not addicted or a daily smoker. But im giving up cigarettes. Im going to smoke fresh rolled from now on.
why? becasue my chest itches from cigarette smoke. it makes my chest hurt for 2-3 days, especially when i smoke 2-3 cigs at a time.

With the fresh stuff, i think its much better than ciggerette smoking. why? cause its like walking into a burning forest vs a  burning chemical plant, which do you perfer? Plus those hand rolled ciggs hit you like a horseshoe of cope!

Anyway, i cant offer you any advice besides, if you drink before 10am, you have problems. this does not count if your still up from the previous night and your still drinking.
If you can blow a .7 and still be awake, you have a problem.
If you cant win a bet to not drink for x amount of time, where x is greater than 5x the number of days you usually drink a week. then you have a problem

otherwise, i dont know why youd quit drinking. your liver heals itself over time, i like to completely destroy it once a month.

while I've never smoked (first hand) I've done my fair share of drinking and have made many adjustments to my intake both up and down for a variety of reasons (activity/social based).  I've taken a stance of 'moderation is key' in just about every facet of my life and it's done me quite nicely for several decades now.  one thing is for sure though- if you're honest with yourself and happy with yourself don't let anyone tell you how to live your life unless they're paying your bills.   own your mistakes, your successes, and your every breathing moment and you'll get to the finish line a happier man/woman.

I smoked for 22+ years and "quit" on new years of this year.

I say "quit" because I still smoke about one cigarette a week and I chew about 4 pieces of nicotine gum a day (and show no signs of slowing down)

The gum ain't bad. Almost all the goodness of Cigarettes with none of that pesky cancer risk.

I own several motorcycles. I have owned lots of motorcycles. And have bolted and/or modified lots of crap to said motorcycles...
