The old single phase charging systems could barely keep up.
My 900SS's headlights get brighter at idle when I blip the throttle!
916's 996's 748's etc. all had this system.

The newer (about 1998-2000 depending on model some carburated -ALL the late model fuel injected bikes) have a three phase system -it is MUCH better.  The FI couldn't deal with wildly fluctuating power -something had to be done!
More engine RPM's do make it put out more, but it is capable of keeping up at idle and has enough Oomph
left over to replace the energy the battery just expended from starting.

DFW-MFer!

Regulator problems or not I am a huge fan of battery tenders, either Deltran or Yuasa brand... both are good and save the day. Scooter batteries suck at best. Anyone want to argue? I thought not. They could make one that lasts longer but why bother? It's built in obsolescence at it's best. We are a captive purchasing audience. Want to ride your bike with the dead one year old battery? Well then here, buy a new one. :P Same with household lightbulbs.

It was well worth the money but I have a Battery Tender on every scooter. As I've said, if I'm not riding them they are hooked up and charging. I can attest to their ability to make batteries last much longer than I would have ever dreamed. I even have them on my farm equipment in East TX. And the tenders are a heck of a lot cheaper than replacement batteries. Checked the prices lately? They have really gone up.

B8 hope it's just the volt reg and it's fixed quick and free by AMS. Sounds like Kevin got his out of the way fast. Bad way to start a relationship with a new bike. Hope that's the end of it. [thumbsup]

Quoteso you should have it back in a week or two, then?

Or you could take it to the dealer in Plano or Fort Worth and have it come back to you worst then it originally was.   [thumbsup]

I'm going to try and take it in tomorrow, but who knows with the rain
