ok, does anyone know the purpose of these threaded holes on the bottom of the horizontal cylinder. Ive got a suspension design utilizing them and im just wondering what they are for. Thanks guys.

My guess is that it's for manufacturing proposes.

I base this on absolutely nothing  ???, but depending the the forces applied to that specific area, would the integrity of the base gasket be compromised?

truckinduc

my design will put minimal stress, i hope, on that part. I dont think it will cause the base gasket to leak. But that is all yet to be seen. I may destroy my motor. We will see.

ok so i have tweaked my design a TAD. it should put very very little stress on this point. Its basically just a pivot point.

I'm not 100% sure but I think they have something to do with mounting the oil cooler.

Had a look at the S2R1000 images and it doesn't utilize these holes either, so I was wrong.

on the ss models they're used to hold rods that act as fairing buffers - a threaded rod with a rubber on the end.  they don't actually support anything.

Brad beat me to it, but if you doubt me, I've got an SS sitting in my garage and could get you pictures if you required it.
