Yeah... my guess is the things you did wrong wouldn't result in an automatic arrest and disqualify you from ever purchasing a firearm again.  ;)  I'd rather avoid the felony of being caught carrying without a permit.

I'm sorry . . . have we met?  My name is Chuck . . . I'm naughty ;D

Not you Ryan . . . the husband of my friend Susan Ryan . . .

Yah, in VT when I carried . . . it was illegal to walk around with a gun in sight!  You could carry it "concealed" and be OK but if it was in the open it was considered  . . . gah . . . assault I think.  No permit required.  This I always found odd because every truck had a gun rack full of guns . . . that's not concealed.  Oh, and the hunters walking through town with their rifles slung over their shoulders . . . that's not concealed . . .

1st time you walk in a bank with a pistol under your jacket and there are  [leo] outside and in you start to wonder if the State Trooper you talked to was forthright or whether you'd been set up and here's your opportunity to find out.

Is it hard to get a permit? I've thought about doing that...

Not difficult here in OR.

You take a classroom lecture that covers legal matters.  Then you fill out the County application paperwork and pay your $65 ($15 to the State Police for the background check, $50 to the County Sheriff for their application fee).  If you get approved (which a resident must be, unless they meet specific disqualification criteria), you'll get your permit sometime within 6 weeks.  Must be renewed every 4 years (or so the gal at the office told me).

Note that different states have different standards and laws, so definitely check the local statutes before making any assumptions.

On another tangent, I think this was a successful threadjack.  ;D

I love rice. Rice is great when you're hungry and you want to eat 2000 of something.

lets see...
in Mass, the process is something like this.

you: i want to apply for a concealed weapons permit
them: you have a handgun?
you: um, yes
them: would you please step over here sir
you: um, ok....why?
them: sir, please place your hands on your head......

ok, ok,.........somewhat of an over dramatization. but damn are they strict on handguns in Mass

Question #1: Why are you taking a handgun to Mass, shouldn't the prayers keep you safe anyways?
Question #2: Why are you asking the priest for a permit? church and state aren't allowed to talk to each other either; naughty, naughty, thats more time in confession and less time riding!

You're welcome.  You wouldn't be a truly accepted and loved member of the DML if you hadn't had a thread or two jacked.  [thumbsup]
