Did anyone see the CBS broadcast of Motogp where they interviewed Roland?

They skim over some of his builds then walk outside and show his Desmosedici, with a burnout blown rear tire! Spent more time talking about his burnout than the bikes he built. Squidly interview

I think Sands builds some great bikes, but he's always been a squid. Tried to be a pro racer, but couldn't cut it.

I'd hardly call an 8yr professional racing career including a national campionship "not cutting it."  Sure he didn't go onto bigger series but he probably made the right choice (from a longterm income standpoint) about getting involved with his father's business Performance Machine.  Dude builds some seriously custom bikes that are capable of going fast, that earns him some credit in my book.

Umm.  That's not the case at all.  He was very successful as a pro racer and won a 250 championship.

You sound suprised.

Fortunatly we were in a bar that did not turn up the volume, so we were not subject to comentary.
It's all in the grind, Sizemore. Can't be too fine, can't be too coarse. This, my friend, is a science. I mean you're looking at the guy that believed all the commercials. You know, about the "be all you can be." I made coffee through Desert Storm. I made coffee through Panama while everyone else got to fight, got to be a Ranger.

RSD recently did a Hypermotard build that got a lot of accolades, and though not my cup of lager at least he didn't turn it into a chopper that's unrideable.  If the custom scene is moving into more race/speed oriented builds than hacked-out pieces of crap that handle like a wheelbarrow with an uneven load and a flat tire, I'm all for it!  Less rake, less fake, and learn to use the front brake!!!
If it's got two wheels and a motor, I like it!

Now that is so true [thumbsup]

Whoa, whoa guys, that wasn't intended as a shot at Roland's racing ability. I've just heard a couple interviews with him, and he seemed a little jaded about not being a bigger success in racing.
