I'm starting to notice a "pop' with a hestation of power. My bike has a little over 800 miles and I had the coil issue fixed.

I noticed this "pop" about two weeks ago when I was riding to work. I was in 6th gear cruizing under 4000 rpm on a 5 mile strait-away. This is happening every time I ride to work now and it does it only one time when I'm in this long straight section to and from work.

I wonder if the coil wiring issue damaged the coil? I have no training in motorcycle mechanics, just basic automotive, early muscle car stuff, but I remember one sign of a bad coil is poping/hestation.

If it helps you draw a conclusion, my bike did not have to coil-wire issue.  So I would say that the coil is probably fine (unless it is otherwise defective).

I always assumed that the backfiring and afterburning were a symptom of improperly adjusted valve timing.  I mean, both involve combustible gasses being on the wrong side of their respective valve when combustion occurs (backfiring is combustion in the intake, afterburning is combustion in the exhaust).  I guess I have a misunderstanding of what's going on.  Wouldn't be the first time!   :-\
