Bikes in the same "class" as a Monster 620

So I believe the SV650 is a good clip faster than a 2004 620... Out of curiousity, what bikes are compairable to a Monster 620? I know my bike is "618cc" but that measurement seems a lot different on the VTwin...

I am not looking to race anyone but usually I feel like my bike would be quicker than most Harleys or cruisers and that I would get smoked by most all other sport bikes.

I am just curious if I were to find a sport or naked sport bike that is evenly matched, speed/power-wise, to my M620, what would it be?

Better yet, anywhere I can look at HP, 0-60, and .25 mile specs for different bikes side by side?

Maybe something like a Kawasaki  Ninja 500R parallel twin or a single cylinder KTM 640LC4? Both of which I think will be around the power of a 620 maybe?

It is certainly less powerful than any of the inline four 600cc bikes, even the detuned ones unfortunately.

Even my S4Rs has problems catching Japanese 600cc bikes at 100mph +, maybe its the lack of a fairing or maybe I am just a c**p rider [moto]

Anyway...may there be cheap or fast or both...you will never caught me on a rice rocket...ever

Don't have the numbers on hand but after riding them all I can confidently say an M620 outguns those rides - jesus man it's not that lame.

I only hope I can buy you a beer one day good sir.

you've gotta put these things into perspective..
An sv650 is a watercooled twin cam 4v.  and The Monster is aircooled and 2v. So its not a fair compasrrison.
Having been out on spirited rides with my mate. Him on his 2003 sv650 and me on my 98 M600 i can tell you that the difference isn't as big as it looks on paper.
The top  end on the sv650 is about 15mph higher. But he doesnt start to pull away intill about 90mph.
Reallistically how often do you do that?
The monster handles alot better brakes alot better.

A monster 695 should be right up there with the sv650.

I had an ex500 and its not even on the same park as the Monster.
I had an FZ600 which was quicker but didnt handle aswell or look as good.

the F650GS I rode in cali didn't pull nearly as hard as my monster does, but it did handle well enough.

What about the Ninja 650?  It's a parallel twin, probably close in HP.  An SV650 makes more ponies than my M750 ~

I'd agree, with the caveat that it is not shorty-friendly.  Fun to ride, brakes are nowhere as good as the duc's, topped it out around 110 mph.

I was fine w/it... but I'm only mostly-short  ;)

Thanks good find on that link. I've been watching the RC8 progress but didn't know they had a naked version coming as well!

People asked why I didn't take more pictures when I was riding it around Germany...it's because I could only stop somewhere flat.  Try finding somewhere flat to pull over in the Alps!  [cheeky]

You just tell me when you go to the alps next time and I can give you a lift...a forklift ;)

Well unless physical laws don't appy to Ducati... two valve aircooled twin versus 4 valve water cooled....

Both claimed 60Hp according to the links below for Ninja 500 and 620M. Although in the real world the M620 would feel faster because it makes the power lower down.

I do know that my SV400 was much quicker than any M400 I ever met, a direct CC comparison isn't a good method of evaluation.

I noted a review recently on one of the US magazines, they actualy dared compare the latest 660 single cylinder KTM against the 696. There weren't that different. 696 slightly more horsepower and a wider rev range, the KTM more power lower down.

Its all quite subjective really, the recent DS1000 engined bike I rode actally felt better on the road than my S4Rs, up to about 6000RPM, typical road speeds the HP figures are pretty similar. After 6000rpm the power curves go in opposite directions however.

One of the guys I ride with has a SV650 and were pretty much even until we reach around 90-95, then he starts pulling off slowly. I would guess his top speed is around 120 and miine seems to start falling flat on it's face around there, which would explain why he's pulling away from me. All in all were pretty much even up to that point unless we add twisties to the mix , which gives me the advantage.

Then again ,I bought the little monster to have fun in the twisties. I'm not too worried about who's got the fastest bike . When I want to go faster, I jump on another bike.

FWIW:  I find myself riding the Duc a lot more than the others.

The ninja weighed in at 375 and the Duc at 389. So, the ninja has it there too, and low end torque aside, smaller engines rev faster=make more power faster. The ninja, in a straight line, should pull away from the duc.
