I told you to stop winding her up to ten grand and dumping the clutch. If you do you're gonna break those rear wheel retaining pins and now look what happened! [laugh] Do the matching holes on the rear wheel hub look OK? Any other S4RS owners experience this?? Swanny, Cory???

Not again... referring to the fact that I have to take her back to AMS for repairs and miss out on another few weeks of riding... but I should be thankful.

...

So, I take my bike over to a friend's place to do the tires... First thing we find is that the rear wheel nut comes off way too easily. Second thing is that the retaining pins are worn unevenly and one of them just fell off when I wiggled it. As I stared at that one I wondered if that could possibly be normal. To making things worse, I found the next pin was already cracked and was ready to snap as well. After close inspection, the inside of the broken pin had badly stripped threads and each of the pins had been worn unevenly, enough to do slightly ovalize the mounting holes on the wheel as well. We didn't have the parts or a hoist to allow disassembly of the rear hub so we put it all back together. With the wheel snug there was no detectable movement so I don't forsee any permanent damage, just those pins need to be replaced.

Perhaps that one damaged pin was stripped enough to allow some kind of movement, which in turn loosened the wheel nut allowing enough movement to wear down the pins and the mounting holes inside the wheel. I have a hard time believing the reverse, that the wheel nut loosened on its own and somehow stripped out the pins. Or that the pins are intentionally single use. I'm thinking overzealous assembly and/or weak materials.

...and on a safety note, thank god for the safety clip. I almost literally rode the wheel off.

it's odd that the wheel nut would loosen at all with the safety clip placed correctly.   It wouldn't be a good idea to have the pins replaced.  That should be a full hub replacement for safety

So far the repairs are pure speculation. I'll call AMS at 10 and let them know I'm coming. I have the bike on the truck ready to take in.

I'm so depressed knowing that I'll be rejoining the potentially long queue for service. I've only ridden a few times since getting it back the last time.

Is this in any way a warranty deal or is it coming out of your pocket? I hope it can somehow be construed as a warrany issue for your sake. Ouch, another three week wait. Sorry bro'.
