Patience plz.... I'm not new to bikes, but new to Ducs and bikes w/ FI and digital dashes, eledtronic ECU's etc. Just bought an new (leftover) 2006 S2R800 Monster. Everything I've owned prior to my 06 S2R has been 100% analog Jap 4-banger. So..... coupla newbie questions.....

1.  Since we're coming into fall and cool riding, I want to attach the lead for my Aerostich heated vest to my battery. Other than having to reset the clock, will I have to 'reset' anything else on this bike after disconnecting the battery to install the lead??

2. What can I expect for fuel mileage (over 40mpg I hope??), tank capacity, and tank range on my S2R 800? I hit the low fuel warning at only 80 miles....... but I don't think the dealer sent me on my way with a full tank. I think it only took about 2.5 gallons to fill at that point. How may (safe?) miles left when I get the low fuel warning? I've searched some of the posts here as well as owners manual and only found tank capacities listed in litres (might as well be in swahili). My only frustration so far w/ the Duc is no fuel guage.

3. What's involved in 600 mile service, and should I just do it myself?

SO far, 150 miles on the new Duc, and I'm loving it!!

1. Battery is just like your jap bike. Remove it, and the bike has no power. Connect it, and your bike has power. only thing different is that the clock gets reset back to 12:00.

2. S2R800 mileage will vary depending on how you ride. Since it is still in its break in period, it probably wont be too good. you can head over to the how to and look up how to break in your bike. (i am for the breaking it in hard method, you'll know what i mean when you the thread) but if you ride it dirty, you can see as mpgs as low as 27mpg, and up to 55mpg. You will only be able to fill 2.9 gals on most occasions, unless you bleed it dry, and your pushing hte bike to the station, in that case, its only about 3.3gals max. Did your jap bikes have fuel gauges? ive never seen one.

3.600 mile service is just a look around to see how well its running, bolt check to see if the any bolts were rattled loose, chain tension check, and an oil change

Thanks for the prompt reply He-Man---- I spent the last 6 years and 55K miles a bike with both a fuel guage and almost 5 gallon tank capacity-- 180 miles for an easy fill up and well over 200 if I pushed into reserve. Looks like filling up more frequently will have to become a habit.

I can tell you I made it about 30 miles from the time my light came on (at Newcombs Ranch) til I ran out of gas....
Did I mention I just got to the bottom of ACH and coasted to the gas station (close call)
