Hope someone can help me out.

I have been bikeless for 2 months now as I'm having problems finding a rear wheel for my bike.

Long story but I have destroyed the rear wheel due to bearing collapse. Had to send it to the Duc shop as it may have been a warranty issue but I've given up on that angle - too hard to prove.

I'm looking for a rear wheel to suit an 05 Monster 1000S.  It has to be from an 04 or 05 (ST is same wheel). Apparently they changed in 06.  So if anyone has a spare one lying around in the shed, please get in touch.

I'm in country Vic (well beyond any black stump) but bike is in Melbourne.

I have two bum steers so far one was $500 the other $800.  At the moment the shop is looking at supplying a new one at $1900 !!!!!  So if you can beat that (on the lower side) I would have a look at it.

$1900 - it's a three spoke Brembo isn't it? what was your's gold plated or something?

The 1000 went to alloys when it went to SSS in 2006 (that way it looked like it was a lighter weight - really it was hiding the fact the SSS weighed a heap more than the DSS)

$1900, gee for that kinda money I'd be looking a nice set of after market jobies.
Could be just the excuse.

Have you damaged it that bad that it can't be resleeved? I did something similar and I put a steel sleeve in and now everything is just fine.

Heather look into asking a wheel repair/ engineering company to do a repair.

$1900 sound like a good excuse for some nice after market wheels.

I would look on the 'for sale' section of the forum. You would definately find a rear wheel from the US at a more than reasonable price.

i think we (moto one, not wanting to assume you know where i'm from) may have a new 5 spoke wheel from an ss at work.  it'd need the larger bearings and spacer to suit the 1000m, but i think otherwise it'd work.  you'd need to ring and ask tony.

spoke to Bob Brown yesterday - he has nothing but will check a few of his sources.

Rang Euro they have a silver rear for $660 - however he mentioned that they had that the m1000s runs a different rim than all other 2000 era monsters.

can you go into more detail as to that comment at the start about 04/05 ST. the 2006 part is refering to the fact the model changed to SSS / s2r1000 in 06 right?

I cant believe that there is too much damage for a good engineering shop to repair. 

Bob Martin et al have fixed some really badly damaged wheels over the years O reckon. 

It would have to be worth taking the wheel in for them/someone to look at???

I've also got a sleeve in the bearing recess on one side of my rear wheel - from memory it cost me $180 to have it repaired.

Phew finally found time to reply. 
Firstly thanks everyone for the enthusiastic responses.  I phoned the shop again today as they never call me when they say they're gonna.  Got some more info.

Apparently I have a 'rare' monster 2005 1000s.  Wheels for this model were only made in 2004/05.  They fit the monster and 04/05 ST3 only.  Hence expensive replacement.
Service manager in Melbourne cannot source a 2nd hand wheel in Oz.

He previously pooh poohed the idea of machining/sleeving - I discussed it with him again today - the bearing shattered and has etched the inside of the wheel so don't know if it can in fact be machined but he has now agreed to look into it for me.  So if anyone has any experience of good engineering in Melbourne, I would appreciate the info.
