To all Aussie Forum members,

While it is raining and cold in Adelaide I thought I would start thinking about summer and what I might need to buy...  I will need to get myself a jacket for this summer.  I like the look of the Motard Summer but would appreciate any advice or comments good jackets for summer.  Something that has mesh but also protection.

Any comments?

Not at all OZ, but I have the Rev'it Air - it's very...... air'y. Good quality, good thinking, good looking, good protection. Maybe a little bit smaller than "usual" sizes.

I wear an A* summer mesh jacket. Has a removable liner, which is good cause Canberra summers can still be cool in the morning. Works a treat, both sitting still and moving. Haven't yet crash-tested it. Picked it up for $300 at a sale at a bike store here in Canberra.

It has kept me cool up to 42 degrees .

Obviously you will not get a jacket that keeps you cool in middle of summer, I am pretty sure that a middle of summer day in Adelaide can be frickin' hot. I only have a leather jacket with good air vents, yes you get warm sitting in traffic, but I would suggest you could be warm wearing a T-shirt. I prefer safety first. If you get too hot, park it out the front of your favourite Beer Garden and have a refreshment (any excuse).

Hey Tricolore, you are dead right mate it gets very hot in Adelaide in summer. 

I have an AlpineStar leather jacket but I reckon it would be too hot in summer.... it is very thick leather and heavy.  I also have a DryRider Urban jacket that is also a bit too hot.  I have looked at the Dainese mesh jacket that does have protection around the elbows etc.

I do like the Ducati Summer Motard but at around $699 or thereabouts I was hoping for something a little cheaper.

Hey Brett I have the Motard Summer jacket and used it all last summer in some pretty hot weather here in Sydney.

It has a zip out liner that you can use if the weather cools a bit. I normally just switch to a leather jacket rather than mess with the liner but the once I did try it it was warm and did the job.

I do highly recommend the jacket for hot weather riding. Nicely perforated to keep you cool ish....

I have the Cortech GX air only $270 and comes with both removable quilted and waterproof liners.
It was the only one I tried on where the armour was sitting in the right position on my elbows and I consider myself as average build and height.
It also has good quality leather patches on shoulder and elbows.
So far very comfortable in the cool weather and yesterday was quite hot in the sun and once rolling along the jacket was well ventilated and cool.
The only gripe I have is though the zips and fittings are good quality, the main front zip is on the wrong side which makes it feel awkward to do up.
The thing I've found over the years with summer jackets is not to have them too tight, you can have all the vents in the world but if the air can't circulate it won't keep you cool.

yep, i agree completely. a leather jacket is the best protection, just accept that getting hot and sweaty in summer is part of riding. riding safe.

Hi Brett.

Spidi Type "R" here, works very well, vents in arms, chest and back.
Removable liner.
Also full CE armour including back.
Like it so much that 3 months later I went and bought a spare.

They aren't popular so you might have to ask.
RRP was $600, but I bought both of mine for $400..moving stock, not sure if they are still current.

FYI leather jackets are hot, and stay away from black.

My wife and I have MotoDry XVent jackets and they work a treat in Brissy.

Reasonably inexpensive but with good quality mesh and protection for the back, shoulders & elbow. Ours are all Black.

I'd agree, but I'd also add that a non perforated / vented textile jacket is hotter.

FWIW, I ride with my full leather dainese all year, and yeah it gets hot but not unbearable.
I also find that wearing a perforated "sports" t shirt under helps as well...

absolutely  there are worse things, you could be stuck a cage 

exactly Goldie...a nice wool undershirt will work wonders wicking away the perspiration.

I always figured white, perforated leather would give the protection and keep the rider comfortable - good to hear I'm on the right page!

(Bret I won't suggest the Dainese jacket I tried on to you - it's $1200!)

exactly - you're buying seasonal clothing - definitely a summer piece...but my leathers at the moment have got a removable thermal liner in them - so they are great for winter (*with liner) and can do spring and autumn without the liner - but black leather in summer is a pretty tough call.

Exactly the same for mesh textile.

If you get a mesh or perforated leather jacket with a liner I imagine it can do you for 3 seasons too - just not cold winter...some of the comments above back up this thought.

Sounds like Bret is after something very specific cause his current setup can do 3 seasons but not Adelaide's summer (didn't you guys get the record earlier this year for most consecutive days above 35 for an Australian city - 16 or something!)
