I've got a 2007 S4R, Bone stock.  Give me your opinions on necessary accessories.

Pipes? Full, Slip on?   Steering Dampener?  Anything you guys think is worth pointing out., I wanna know about.

Thought I would add a couple questions....
What kind of Pipes?  I almost bought a full termi system, but some guys on the other board said I should wait and look around...

I'm starting over on gear, what do you recomend?

Where do I find this Gel seat everyone is talking about???
I can't find it on Ducati's page.  And I'm a long way from a dealer so I have to do my research way ahead of time...

Full system with airbox/ecu.

The open clutch is a non issue. Nothing big can get in, water and other small stuff just blows out.
I'm here to kick a*! and chew bubble gum...and I'm all out of bubble gum.

Proper gear!

I'm with Someguy on the proper gear first.  Once you have your safety equipment then start in on your bike.  At that time you'll notice immediate "performance" gains from exhaust and tuning mods while gearing can be "improved" by the swap to a 14t front sprocket.  Jump over to the Accessories & Mods forum and just start reading.  You'll get all the info and more than you'll ever need.

I've done a number of things to my 2007 S4Rs, but the two that stand out are:

  • New Exhaust: I installed the full Termignoni exhaust kit with air box and ECU.  I can't say this enough; the exhaust simply transformed the bike.  It's way smoother throughout the entire rev range, it's easier to control at takeoff and on downshift, and the acceleration is much more linear than it was before.  The look of the bike is that much more powerful and muscular, especially without the cow udder catalytic converter hanging from below (just don't tell the emissions police).  And the sound...oh my.  It sounds like Zeus gargling with thunder after a bender.  It sounds like all the Jake Brakes in the Eisenhower Tunnel amplified through a bullhorn.  It sounds like the engine room on the Exxon Valdez after it ran aground.  It sounds like...you get the idea.

  • New Mirrors:  Not only do the stock mirrors look like they were designed by Disney, they vibrated to the point of uselessness at any speed above 30.  I replaced them with a set of Rizoma "Reverse Retro" bar-end mirrors and the difference is palpable.  The look a ton better, and incredibly they actually function!  They're bone still even at speed with absolutely no vibration, and they have a subtle blue tint that sharpens up the field of view.

Next up will be to open up the dry clutch, change out the turn signals all the way around, and decide what sort of non-chop tail I want.  Ah, decisions...  Have fun with your new bike.  Cheers.

Small, but functional:

Grip Puppies - a larger grip and more comfortable - "small" for our bikes.

I forgot what a good looking bike that is [thumbsup]

Id like to add a seat to the list of must do things, and that's for any monster.  I loved my Sargent seat.

I agree with ArabicaMan on the Rizoma Reverse Retro bar-end mirrors, I've got them on my bike and they are great. If your local dealer doesn't sell them try to get them to start carrying Rizoma. I got Portland's Motocorsa to start carrying them just by asking, now they have a nice display of Rizoma stuff at the parts counter. Oh, and don't get hit by an SUV while running bar-end mirrors, they won't make it through the wreck, at least not on the side you go down on, and the Rizoma's are a huge pain in the pocket to replace.

Trust me, I'm going to do my damnedest to stay upright.  Had my first wreck in like 12 years back in July.  That was enough for me...

Anyone want to kick in their opinions about what good gear is???  This is my first sport bike in 6 years, and it's my first true sport bike.  So I'm starting over on the gear end.    Got one little, weird quirk when it comes to gear...  I don't like being a billboard.  My bike says Ducati, I don't want my gear to have it plastered all over it.  When I rode a Harley that was sacrilege to other riders... but I never was very crazy about the other folks on those bikes anyway.
