My 2007 s2r runs a little rich. My buddy said that when I get on the gas hard there is some black smoke coming from the exhaust. Also, the pipe tips and any of the joints have some black carbon build up on them.
Bike seems to run great, should I bring it in???

Have you made any intake or exhaust mods?

Is the fast idle lever "on"

If no one messed with anything I would suspect the air temperature sensor behind the headlight or the cylinder had temperature sensor or related wiring are at fault.  '07?  If I am correct you are looking at a warranty issue.  Either way, a quick scan with the factory scan tool should find the problem.

I'll bring it in and have them check it out. Don't want to have any problems with it later on.

Was this on the same tank of fuel or is it on different fuel from different suppliers?
You'll always get some black soot buildup at the exhaust, it's the nature of unleaded fuel, the black around the joints is from the exhaust leaking at these points, check the tightness of the clamps.

The quick way to check your fuel mixture is, after a good run, remove your plugs, look at the tips, black is rich, brown is good, white is too lean.

Thanks Brimo, I'll check out the plugs this week when I get back from a ride.

Normally with a stock set up you shouldn't have any problems with the bike being too rich.  Usually if anything they are too lean.

I'm going with what I'm seeing on my exhaust tips and connections. I'll check a plug first.
