Well, the bike will start and idle (poorly) but dies with throttle.

The dealer says that it's a bad ECU and want $1600 for a new one [puke]

Any other options.

The bike is an 02 620 monster.
update

turns out the dealer was wrong after all. [bang]

the bike's injectors were clogged. needless to say the bike is now running well on the original ecu
and i have one for sale.  [roll]

Get a used one.

If it has the immobilizer, get one with keys, locks, and gauge.

Example (however not a good example, but you should get the point)
ebay

Also, post in the Parts Wanted section, and send Motored-Sports a message.  He sells a bunch of parts around here.

thats a good example actually. you could probably get a FIM ecu for cheap now for the 620s and get full adjustability.

I've been exploring the used avenue but am concerned about compatibility. Would any monster ecu work with the bike?

I'll also look into the FIM ecu.

Thanks

ECU= engine control unit = controls fuel = only 620 ecus will work.

Is that the case with the bikes with the immobilizers? I know that on the older bikes without it, you can change the same version ECU all day long between bikes.....as long as you put the correct eprom chip in it. My second ST2 had an ECU labeled that it was from a 916 and the ST4 engine and wiring harness I picked up came with an ECU from a 944 (ST2). These are the older 1.6 ver ECUs, though.

Well The shop put a different ecu in the bike (off an 800 i believe) and the bike started and ran.
So i would asume that an ecu other than a 620 would run the bike...

Has any one here made a swith know for sure?

Speeddog

With an ECU from an 800, it would run, but not necessarily have the right fuel and spark.

Either a complete used 'suite' from a 620, or an FIM.

Sorry, this is pointed at the 03+ ECUs. the older ECus ran on some sort of eprom chip

not sure about the immobilizer from the 01-02 ECUs.

An 800 virgin ECU would start the bike, but im not going to say it will run right since its more fuel and the timing is of, both bikes have different strokes i believe. you could get away with an DS1100ecu and a DS1000 ecu because the only difference is in bore, and its slight. but the 800 in a 620 is a bit too much.

Just a heads up
bozoImmobilizer's started in 2001 only with the S4 and then every year after 2002 and newer (all bikes) use the same 5.9 system which is the immobilizer.  Some features are different depending on the bike/year, but the core system is the same. This only changed with the 696's which are using a Seimens electronics setup which is only in it's first year so far 2008.

Michelle (IndustrialGrrl) has a complete 2002 M620 setup for sale. It's got

1 red key
2 black keys
ECU
gauges  <-- I don't remember how many miles are on these, I think about 12k
locks
and possibly the code card, but Industrialgrrl will know for sure.

I switched her bike to a 2002 M900 and had to switch all that stuff as well hence why it's available.

If you're interested PM her/me and we'll go from there. How does $675 for everything shipped to the lower 48 sound?

*That* is a love connection if there ever was one.  ;)

That's what I was thinking, which is why I asked. My newest Duc is an '02.

I just replied to your email to me.

The 2000 and 2001 M900's used the 1.5 ECU which is flashable and has no bozomobilizer.
