heres a pic of the bike...
i have a good ol' dent in the tank, and would like to see if that is something that a paintelss dent removal place would be able to tackle?
and also, the other part circled in red, how would i go about painting it black? mask the parts or remove from the bike? any other suggestions are welcomed of course...
also, what is involved in removing those side covers? meaning, after i take them off how do i clean up around it, wire wise...does anyone have pics of this so i can see where to route what, or is it just as simple as zip tie stuff outta place?
im also gonna take all that CA evaporative mumbo jumbo outta there

That dent looks way too big for a 'paintless' dent removal job.

Easiest to paint the oil cooler when it's off the bike.

Yep, pull the sidecovers, and ziptie as you see fit, just don't let the wires rub on or get pinched by the rocker and shock.

Short 5mm allen head bolts are good for plugging the holes in the manifolds after you remove the canister stuff.

Loosen the oil line fittings before removing the bolts that hold the cooler on.
Remove the fittings at the engine first, to drain the lines, it'll be a bit messy.
After removal, drain the cooler itself.

Try to hold on to the end tanks of the cooler when loosening the fittings, the rubber mounts aren't real strong.

The fins are very delicate.
Grab a beer and a *small* screwdriver, and straighten out any bent fins before painting.
Go easy while you get the hang of it.

Do so when you're planning to do an oil change.  It's only held on by 2 bolts at the bottom and the hoses.

Remember to use radiator paint on it, not jsut any old paint

You should take pics of how you re-run the wiring and where you ziptie the harnesses out the way, when you take your covers off.  I'm about to do that myself.  Actually I took them off I just need to reroute the cables and harnesses.

The dent I know little about.  The cooler however... USE the correct paint, dont put to much on or your shit will clog the holes and won't cool.  I have seen the result of that at a dealership. BAD BAD JU JU...
I'm in the Army, I ride bikes.

i also put on double gold stripes on the wheels.

I like it!

I replied to your post over in the Monsters of the DMF thread too, saying I had a similar bike if you recall.  For a while I was thinking about doing a black/gold look, but have kind of decided against it, doing black/sliver instead.  Looking at your bike has made me realize EXACTLY what it is that makes me think the black/gold won't look great on my bike and why it does on yours - matte black vs. gloss black.   I think it might look a little gaudy on mine with the gloss black, whereas with your matte black it looks great together.  I'm still loving the MX bars, if I get sick of my clipons I might go that route too.

thx guys
headlight is yellow (or frenched as some call it).
i do like the matte black and gold combo...after i get the tank fixed up i will go with gold logo/emblems, possibly something vintage (well most likely)
heres another pic showing the headlight.
i will be taking some better pics soon so ill post them

"Frenching" a headlight has nothing to do with its color.
