Does anybody know how I can build (cheaply) a stand for my bike so I can remove the front wheel? I need a new tire and can cut down on the cost of labor by taking 'just' the wheel in but to do so I need something to hold the bike, thought if I could build one it'd come in handy for other stuff without costing me $150

Thanks for any help guys. I know there are people who've done it, just need some advice.

You can get a T-Rex front stand for half that, and they are really nice.  Unless you have a shop and can weld, you aren't likely to make anything for a whole lot less money.  (And if you had a shop, I'm guessing you wouldn't have asked ... but I could be wrong  )

Haha, thanks for the pointer at the t rex. I actually can weld, I have a friend with a shop although he's not really available to help me out most of the time, otherwise I guess I'd have this problem solved  . I've heard of people making them out of wood but I'd rather weld one up as a project and have something I can use for a lifetime. I'll check out those t rex ones now though..

find a pole, and some jackstands. either lift the bike from the rafters, or have a friend lift the front and slide the pole under the front cylinder and set it on the jackstands. viola, front stand.

I think I might try it with wood so I can rest it on something soft and get a friend to help lift it on and off, the jack stands are a great idea though. You're talking about setting the pole (or whatever object I end up using) against the part between the header and the valve cover right?

That would be a great idea to hold it from the engine, then I could change the fork oil without needing another type of stand.

accually farther back on the cylinder. right infront of the oil cooler line, behind the header.

Think I'm on to it now, between the oil cooler line and the header, I see why you would need a pole now, small space. Is it stable enough to hold the bike for a while? I'm sure it would be but I just want to make sure. Thanks for all the help!

yep, i ussually have the rear of the bike on a rearstand, and i accually used a stock set of handlebars for the pole, it cradles the engine pretty well
