I hope this question is not too stupid....
I want to change these 'axelnuts' from the rear wheel, or how they are called, and replace them by red anodized versions. See pic.
Can I just do it with the bike on the kickstand, or do I have to lift the bike in the back, so the wheel comes free? Do I have to take the wheel off? I hate that.
I have to confess, till now I really, really don't like to 'touch' anything around the wheelarea's.

Maybe you don't have to put it on a rearstand, but why risk it? Don't tell me you of all people don't have one.

DEFINITELY, put it on a stand. As soon as you crack that nut loose the wheel is goona wanna move and get cocked, on the other side (left) you are safe to do it on the ground as the eccenctric is 'captive" and things stay in place. Only the carrier/sprocket stuff can move but the chain will hold them in place.

I'm not totally useless, I can be used as a bad example!

Unscrew one & put the other on, nothings going to fall off (unless you ride it!). I've got a bike sitting in the shop waiting for a special nut & it's been nutless for about 2 weeks.

Thanks!!! I will try this tomorrow. I'm getting a bit nervous, though....

Norm, c_rex, IdZerO and hypurone: THANKS!!!
I knew it couldn't be too difficult, but got a bit unsure. The rearwheel was the only thing I kept my hands off till now.....

Cheers!  [beer]

With a rear wheel like that, I probably wouldn't touch it either.  [thumbsup]

I'd just sit back and stare at it.

I can't wait until Marquez gets on his level and makes Jorge trip on his tampon string.

I'll second that....
