Let me start by saying that I have done a search and may be wording it wrong...So I am sorry if this has been covered before. I had a little difficulty getting my monster started this morning and a few minutes she cranked. I let her warm up for a while and she seemed good to go. I went and filled her up at the local BP and all still semmed fine. About 15 mninutes into my commute I started form a stop light and when i got up to 30 she acted like she was out of gas. She did this everytime I stopped and started back up. I turned around and took her home freaking out thinking that I wasn't going to make it. Does anybody experienced anything like this? Oh by the way she is 2002 620ie.

If you're sitting still, and roll the throttle on - does the engine start to stumble and want to die at higher RPMs?

I'd be looking at fuel delivery as the 1st possible source of the problem.  Ever replaced your fuel filter?

The bikes seems fine when I roll the throttle sitting still. I have not replaced the fuel filter since I have owned it. I purchased the bike with 500 miles on it and have about 1300 on it now.

Ok, well a fuel filter should last a good bit longer than 1300 miles... unless you put fine sand in your tank w/ every fill up.

What RPMs were you hitting at 30 mph?

I want to say around 3K-35K...but to be honest I was so freaking out with the cars behind me and dropping speed that I was looking in my mirrors. I know that is a crappy answer but I didn't want to die.

3-3.5 k in what gear?  Depending on the bike and how cold it is (it's like 60 here today, little chilly) 3 thousand rpms may be a bit low.  Did you try reving it a bit higher or staying in a lower gear longer??

Once you hit 30 did it loose all power and refuse to go any faster, or could you work through the stutters?  Does sound a bit like fuel delivery.

It worked through the stutters and it is not overly hot (or at least it wasn't this morning) it's about 85. I want to say that I was in third gear.

Dunno much about the FI bikes, but I'm pretty sure my carbie would just about die doing 30 mph in 3rd gear at 3k rpms. Try giving her a little more throttle.  With my stock gearing I'm not even into 2nd at 30 mph.

Yeah 3rd gear on a 620 at those RPMs and she's not going to like it.  You'll want to be about 1K+ higher than that.  620s are great bikes, but with the stock gearing they just don't have the grunt to carry the bike at those RMPs

If I remember right - on my 14t'ed 620 I'd be going up from 1st to 2nd at about 25 mph.  So 30 was well within the jurisdiction of 2nd gear.   So you might just be shifting too soon for your bike. 

After work this evening take a few passes up and down your nearest minimally traveled road.  Try keeping the RMPs around 4.5K as the bottom set point and see how she does.  You might find that this is just a problem solved by 'When in doubt, throttle it out"

+1 on this. You need to run it at higher rpms. Are you new to the bike? I have a tendency to under rev new bikes, takes me a while to feel out where the bike is comfortable. Mine's an 02 750 IE Dark and is really not happy at all in the 3k range unless I have the throttle pinned going through the gear. I like to run it between 4k and 7k depending on the situation, although the bike is way happier when it hits 5 and up. Try it out, see how it feels.

Also the other guys are right, you should check fuel delivery anyway, pinched hoses anything like that.

I have had the bike for about 6 months now and I am riding it the way I always have. I won't be able to ride tonight as I have my sons Baseball game to go to. I will try and hop on it tomorrow (Weather Permitting) and ride around and give you all my findings to see what you think. I appreciate all of the input.

  My question is did the bike exibit this problem before or only after you filled up at the BP?  If it has been otherwise running normally, I would look for contaminated fuel.  You might drain the tank and refill it with fuel you know is good and see if the problem resolves itself.

Yup, seems awefully coincidental after the fill up. I'm thinking water in the fuel. Try adding some water remover (HEET or SEAFOAM etc) or drain the tank and fill from somewhere else.

I didn't have the problem before but I did have a problem starting the bike. The day that Norfolk, Va. was supposed to get the effects of Hurricane Gustav I was trying to move it behind my house and was unable to start it. After all was done I went to try again and it still would not start. A few days later I went out and tried and tried and then tried some more and it started. I sat there for about 5 minutes letting it warm up and then went to the gas station and the problem has been there since. I haven't been able to get on the bike as the weather has been realy yucky lately.
