Has anyone done it from the NYC area?  Plan on doing a Sat morning - Sun evening trip out to Montreal with a few buddies (they will be in a car) and was wondering if it'll be worth riding up and down the distance instead of just being in the car.  Never done a roadtrip so the prospect of riding for 6 hrs through some nice roads is pretty appealing.

I go to Montreal every year in a car. The ride up there is boring cause its 87 all the way up. Unless you want the trip to take longer and find your own way on side roads so its a nice ride, it will be pretty boring.  [coffee] Unless your friends don't mind taking a side trip, which I doubt, since in a car they will just want to get there the shortest route possible. Take the car unless everyone is on bikes so you can explore on the way up.

I am planning to go on my bike for the first time in October when I have a few days off. Maybe I will try to get together with some Monster owners up there so they could take me on some nice roads up there.  [moto]

I made the trip about 7+ years or so ago in a car. If memory serves me it ended up being about 8-9 hours from nyc. Once past lake george things get a little more interesting. The canadian portion was mostly bleek but that may have been because it was the dead of winter. The fall colors should make it infinitely nicer. City itself was alright, not exactly clean but somewhat euro which was cool. I'd like to go back when it isn't 0 degrees out the whole time, I was there to play hockey eh.

I've ridden up 3 time in the past year but on my Harley. Don't think I would be able to do it on the Monster. Taconic all the way up and then 87 rest of the way. Yeah, once you get into the Adirondacks it not a bad ride.

Dress warm! You'd be surprise how cold it can get up there.

I drove up to Montreal years ago.  Highways on the bike could be boring for you for extended periods, if you got friends going in a car go with them.  Then you have company along the way.  have fun.

I did the ride up to Montreal on an '06 GSX-R750 for the GP last year. Went the back way on the way up and the thruway on the way back. I was ready to kick a baby in the neck by the time I got home. I have friends in Montreal, they said they are no good roads close by and not only that, the police have got all crazy about after market customizations on bikes. If part of your plan is to ride around on twisties once you get there then don't bother. If it's about the journey (oh Howard!... it *is* Journey LOL) and you have time to go the back way then yeah, I'd ride up. When I went up, I stayed overnight at Saranac Lake. I rode up with a friend & met other people up there. Ended up not riding the bikes at all once we were there. Go into the Montreal board & post up, NeufUnSix (Jason) is a local & a friend & a great guy.

Thanks for all the input all.  I decided to just go in the car my buddies are renting.  Although now I'm thinking about doing a solo trip somewhere (anywhere) before the riding season ends, which I may ask about later

Solo trips can be a lot of fun, make sure to plan right and everything goes smooth.
