Here you can see that on the right side, the brake pedal is the first to touch

A stock exhaust can will scrape first.  And that looks like you just fell over at a standstill ;)

...Besides the obvious risk involved in taking a corner that hard, how dangerous is it when you drag a part?  I felt afterward like I had been on the verge of dumping, but then again this was my first time scraping.

Scraping parts means you won't be able to tighten up your turn to correct your line if needed, so it is not a desirable place to be.  At that point your only options for correction are to ease out of the turn or get even closer to a low-side crash.

Scraping hard parts also means that you are adding a pivot point to the bike.  If you scrape hard bits, it's pretty easy lever the tires off the ground, or alternatively, provide just enough leverage that you reduce the traction from the tires.   Any suspenion compression is going to come down right on that hard bit and not on your tires.  Then you're screwed.

In short, scraping hard parts is really, really bad.  Don't do it.

wow, what bike is that that you are riding? i didn't know that the monsters could lean that far over before dragging parts?, i notice the cans aren't hitting at all but obviously you don't have stock footpegs on.  if you can lean that far i can't see how a sportbike would be much more than that..

I drag the kickstand on my 696 quite often. Scares the crap out of me every time. They really need to come out with a better design for the kickstand. My toes have scraped a bit but that is easily fixable with different foot positioning.

Here you can see you don't have to lean as far as Capo ;) to drag the kickstand nub, at least on my 695.

Is your 695 stock height?

Mine's lowered (came from the dealer that way ... haven't got around to raising the rear again) and it's no challenge to drag the pipes even with high-mounts.  Of course, I'm heavy, and haven't resprung either, so I have the worst possible situation going.  I hadn't been riding for a month when I had my first drag.  Scared the piss out of me ... even worse 'cuz I was such a newb.

If there are any MOB members reading this and want to come over and help remedy these situations, I have all the parts and plenty of beer!   ;D [drink]

Anybody who grew up riding the shit out of an r90s beemer on or off the track knows all about draging stuff and I finally got to the point where the old beemer could out handle almost anything and not drag - that takes some handing off for sure. If you're on a shaft drive beemer and you start dragging hard parts, the last thing you can do is roll off the throttle. :o :o :o

At least on a Duc you don't loose much (hardly any) ground clearance when you do roll off the throttle.

With the back end of a S*R chassis picked up an inch, preload jacked up and getting the torso over the road these bikes aren't bad to drag.  If you are doing all you can do body position wise and you still drag the feet and pegs, you're in the "zone" - the fun zone and the danger zone. But yea, I do it a lot and my sneeks and boots tell the tale. And yea, sneeks aren't the best footwear to ride in either.

Bring it to the next wrench day, man  ;)

I scraped my kickstand a few weeks ago.

It was very un-nerving

Drug my shoe, then the peg, then my elbow, shoulder, helmet, side of the bike, gas tank, tail section, forks, a butt cheek, the list goes on.

I dragged the stock cans on my 695 twice, once hard enough to gouge the aluminum. The low mount DP cans never scraped, but more times than I can count the foot peg touched and the boot scraped. I just started changing body position and had the suspension reworked and it helped a lot. Went just as fast through the turns, actually faster and didn't drag anything.
