In a quiet garage I heard a sound coming from the engine area after a long trip. Either first time or first time I actually noticed.
It wasn't the usual heat sound from hot parts. It's a hybrid - mix between squeaky whale talk and the sound of a computer starting up - both quite subtle.

Is it the ECU mumbling to get over all it had to deal with, getting ready for bed?

Ideas?

Wouldn't be the fuel cap venting would it? In the last 12 months of owning my S2R, I've heard some awesome sounds, whistles, chirps and beeps coming from it after a ride.

One day it was so loud we could hear it all through the house, took us about 5 mins of wandering around the house trying to locate what was "beeping" that I stumbled into the garage and realized it was the fuel cap.

To which I turned to the Wife and said "It's a Ducati...They do that"

I'm pretty sure it wasn't coming from the fuel cap. It was clearly a mechanical/electronics sound - with a dash of organic sounds, which might be the thing you describe. Not very loud though.

Oh yes, it did, but not with a memorable impact on me though

I've heard a faint buzzing from mine too from time to time...... not as loud as the sweep @ startup but a high pitched sound from under the das/tank area......

Could be too that it's my ears ringing from the sound out of the full Arrows

Another possibility is the crankcase breather.  There is a pair of reed valves in there and they can make a high-pitched sound that is noticeable after the engine is turned off for a few seconds.

There is a new tech at my local shop and he called the older guy over because of a sound on a hypermotard after shutting it off.  We all gathered around....

Sometimes a burp and sometimes a higher almost chirp..just for a few seconds.

Older guy said he's got some bikes in that always chirp (almost high enough to sound like a beep), and some that sound just like the air passing through the reed valve.

Pretty geeky afternoon spent listening to different bikes shut down.

I of course have no idea what your bike is doing because I have zero mechanical skill.   But it was interesting at the shop and a fun story.

I tried the fuel cap thing - no result - sorry I didn't bet against Bigiain 

Today I concluded the sound was more organic than the ECU would be, if indeed it makes sounds at all.

For now, I'll settle for the breather theory.
