Hey everyone!  Been lurking on the forum for a couple months now since picking up a white '09 696.  My buddy rode it and liked it so much he got a red one and we've been terrorizing southern oregon with 'em ever since. Just thought I'd share a couple of pics and ask a silly question...

Has anyone seen another 696 with the same color exhaust as mine (the white one)?  Came from the dealer very purple and gold "marbled" and then went pure purple on me.   I scotchbrited the whole thing back to silver and it went straight back to the color you see here.  Doesn't bother me, just curious to know if anyone else has this?  Most I see in other photos look exactly like my buddy's red bike...

Anyhow enjoy the shots from our 200+ mile ride into N. California yesterday...

Oh yeah... so who's got the most miles on a 696?  I'm running just over 1600, but surely someone around here's got much more...

your pics might not be showing if they are password protected or in a private album. it looks like you have them in picasa, i've had trouble linking to photos from them before. flickr and photobucket work well.

also, if you ever want to meet up with the other oregon riders, we have a pretty active local forum. Under Local Clubs on the left side of this page, click on Northwest.

Sorry for the noob screw up with the photos - apparently dmf doesn't like picasa images.  I'll use photobucket from now on...

I once got the advice to spray W40 on the exhaust before firing it up the very first time. It seems like you get more "gold" than grey color that way, besides the sweet smell of something. You could try to clean them again and then go for the evenly (!) applied W40.

We have the same summer jacket, looking good  [thumbsup] Any chance you'll get another helmet or did you choose the yellow to match the plates or rear spring?? (Don't mind me, I'm not the fashion police - just thinking out loud)

Do you guys push each other to mod the bikes or are you too happy with them to bother? If you are modding - what are your plans?

Thanks for the tip!  I'll give it a shot before my next long ride to make sure I get some heat in them pipes!  On the mods... my buddy's more of a "purist" than I am and is hestitant to mess with the bike unless it's a clear perfomance advantage.  He pulled the front windscreen off (as did I) and leaves the passenger seat cover off as he thinks all that red is just too "flashy" for him.  The bits that need the most modding are still the squishy parts that sit atop the bikes!

So far I've removed the emissions canister and added the euro side shroud from motowheels, added a bit of rim tape, removed the reflectors, and installed a competition works tail chop kit.  I'm picking up some ideas from this forum though, that's for sure!  Looking at some CRG levers and mirrors next.  I'd like to go Rizoma on the mirrors, but geeeezzzzzus... they're expensive!

As for the helmet... don't get me started.  Long story short... really tried to get into a nice Suomy, but my head shape wasn't having it.  Yeah, I thought the subtle match to the yellow coil on the shock and Oregon license plate was nice, but was really digging the safety aspect of it as well.  Had a matte black Scorpion and people kept looking at me, but not seeing me... not fun.  Besides, if a yellow lid's good enough for this guy (R.I.P.), it's good enough for me...  :D

Given I used to live in Ashland many years ago -- I'm envious of some of the great roads and riding weather you have there.

Talked with a friend in Medford today who I hadn't heard from in a long time.  Ironically he saw two 696's being ridden and called me asap as he now wants one!  Hmmm -- wonder whom it was he saw?
