So I walk into my local hardware store today to pick up some WD-40 to clean up some chain wax on my rear wheel.  The guy behind the counter points it out and askes what I'm using it for...he then says "are you old enough to ride"; I'm 31 years old, I do look young but I don't look like I'm 12.  Anyway, I say are you serious in a really pissed off way, at that he doesn't have much to say and then asks my what kind of motorcycle I have.  I told him I have a Ducati Monster and he then say's "oh your one of those kind of people" - I couldn't believe this guy; what an a$$hole.  I laugh it off and I knew from going in their a couple times before that he rode a BMW motorcycle that he always parks out front.  I ask him what he rides and he says a Beemer 1100....to which I fire back, "oh your one of those kind of people".  Honestly I don't have any prejudices towards any type of motorcycle or rider I just said that to cock him off. 

Anyway, just thought I would share...it really pissed me off!  I don't think I will be giving them my business anymore. 

eh....I'd be pissy too if I had to spend my life selling WD-40. I wouldn't sweat it.

Usually Beemer Riders are REALLY cool and accepting.   They ride in all types of weather and are a decent community.   I really like them.

Maybe he is that one outcast.   That loser that always has a better story and he could be shunned by the cool BMW riders,..  LOL.

At any rate, riding a Duc, you will get that.   It sucks.

Mostly from the Japanese riders who think that YOU think that your poo doesn't stink.   That Ducatistas are snobs.   Funny really,...

Since you dont' see the Japanese communities as tight.   You don't see the CEO of Suzuki stepping down and donating ALL proceeds from an auction of his personal Ducati collection to give to charity.

You don't see Honda sponsoring, paying for, maintaining, transporting, and supporting a multimillion dollar 990 cc Moto GP bike for charity rides to support a program to bring medicine and supplies to remote towns in Africa.

You dont' see Kawasaki riders getting together for rallies that benifit kids in need during Christmas.

Hmmm.   Funny.   Now who are the fricken snobs??    Oh, those riders that  back up traffic and pull wheelies on the highway, smash the tops of the tanks to they can do sit down stoppies from the tank,.....

There was a guy that I used to see around here all the time on a GS.

The one time I talked to him I was shocked to find out he was one of the cockiest d-bags ever to throw a leg over a bike.

He explained to Jobu and me that it was impossible to lowside a BMW b/c the cylinder head would just scrape on the pavement until the bike had slowed down enough to make it through the corner, at which point the front tire would make contact again and you were fine.

Typical Beemer ride, IMO.

I've had extended converstaions with 2 BMW riders, both at Deal's Gap, both on fully kitted, accessorized GS's.  They were nice, one even had mud all over his bike from running one of the many fire roads local to the area.  I'd say don't judge BMW riders by the hardware store dude.  The guys on the GS's jumped on their adventure bikes and proceded to chase down some sportbikes.  It was funny.

+1, BMW riders are probably the purest form of the "ill ride whenever i want" type of biker and they always have some sick stories of riding in horrid weather.

edit: There are however, the occasional younger BMW Rider who has no riding gear, is wearing a suit, and thinks hes hot shit for having a BMW. Don't see many of them, but they do exist.
