My S4Rs was parked on the street and someone hit it and left the scene, no note, no witnesses, no nothin'. Damage was bad, but not catastrophic (crushed termis and bars). Does anyone have any experience with insurance companies on hit and runs?

This would come under collision if you have collision coverage.  Assuming you have collision, get an estimate first since you probably have a deductable.

i would chalk it up to "wind" and have them cover it under comprehensive, rather than collision. This way its a no-fault accident.
They could, and probably will try to screw you.

If you have full coverage you should be all right.  I had the same thing happen to me and State Farm just wrote me out a check for the bike and all was done.  Hopefully your insurance is as nice.

Since this was not your fault, did it affect your rates???
Is it June yet?

sportskid1

No it did not but this was my first claim in about 10 years.  I really wouldn't think it should effect your rates as you had not control in the situation but I would talk to you insurance agent.

I had a big steel bar bounce out of a pick up and smack me... I got them to cover that as comprehensive. You should be able to cover it without an increase to the rates.

If no one witnessed it how do you know it was a car? Maybe a ninja clan knocked it over, if there are any footprints on the bike it was most likely a ninja kick and that would be covered under comprehensive.

I came out to my bike on the ground one time, no witnesses and the insurance company tried to pin it as a hit and run and slap me with a deductable. I made the very logical point that since there was no paint transfer on the bike why should we assume a car hit it? Maybe the wind, maybe a ninja, who knows? One thing is certain, the insurance company will try to stick you with the highest deductable possible if you are willing to let them. If no one saw anything, why make assumptions? Tree falls in the woods type of thing, nobody heard or saw anything it must've been the wind... or a ninja (they are quiet)...

It was in fact a hit and run. You can see where someone hit it because it rubbed through the bike cover. I talked to them today and it will be a $500 deductible. Seems worth it because of the termis alone. I have Nationwide, and they are awesome, they have alway taken great care of me.
