Can I move the hi-mount termies to the lo-mount position? '07-695

Now that I've added a Triumph Sprint ST 1050 to the stable, I'm going to  stop trying to make this Monster a touring bike.  I already lost the Monstrack Rear Rack and plan to move to clip-on bars.

I want to lower the cans and open up the area under the seat since IMHO that's the best looking way to mod a monster.

Has anyone done this type of move-- taking the high mounts and slipping them back on the lower mount? 

1. I need to do some measuring to see how the brackets line up.
2. I need to see how the pipe diameter matches up.
3. If all that works, any new issues with mapping the ecu?

I would think mounting is the only issue, so if you can get the brackets and pipes matched up, you're golden.  There is no reason to think that the slight improvement in flow (it should be a tiny bit better) would be outside the tune of the DP chip you got with the high mounts.

Nice looking 695!  I love mine for touring -- and yes having the low mounts for the saddle bags is great!  I recommend going with the cortech sportech system (tail bag + saddle bags).  I doubt the difference in high-low would make that big a difference in air flow that you would need to recalibrate your ECU, but you should ask an experienced tech. 

Another reason i like the low mounts is that you can't see the mediocre looking double sided swing arm.  I like the looks of the plastic panels taken off your bike that show the frame more, very nice.

I ran the 695 DP ECU with high-mounts and also with stock cans with no changes needed. With regards to moving your high-mount termis  to low mounts, you might do better to sell the high mounts and purchase new low mounts. Your high termis look amazing and I suspect you'd probably break even on that sort of arrangement without having to cut/weld the "S" tubes.

yup, sold mine, just the cans for 800 bucks. That cash will get you a new pair of low mounts from the dealer. Hell, if you're willing to go used, you can also get a midpipe.

why would you want to do that anyways?  low mounts looks goofy, well if there was only one can then it would be better, but high mounts looks so nice on monsters

I like the low mounts myself. The cans look to be the same, I'm thinking you could switch pipes and be ok.

Two questions: 

1.  How do you like the Sprint.  I test rode one and really liked it.  I really would love to be able to cover more ground and go on weekend trips (or longer) and don't see making that happen on my monster.

2.  Touring Monster with high mount cans?  What sort of saddle bags did you use.  I have Leo Vince high mounts and am really trying to find a set of saddle bags that won't melt.

Congrats on the Sprint.  It's the next bike I will probably own too.

I wouldn't go with low-mount pipes if you plan to take the Monster to the track.

I wasn't thinking much about logic when I went for the hi mounts.  I just liked the look at the time.  I use the cortech tail bag with a givi tank bag.  Big  pain in the butt-- vecro, buckles, etc. every time you want to fill up-- which is often.

The sprint rocks.  I've got hard side bags (come stock on the '07) and installed the top box for the tail.  Went with Triumph box vs. Givi to match.

The Sprint is awesome. A little hot around town in the summer, but that's what my monster's for.  On the highway it screams.  Cruising at 90 feels like 45 on the Monster.  It's heavier but corners nicely.  It's a sport tourer for sure.  I've read the boards and many people sell them thinking they are a laid back cruiser.  but you need to engage this bike which I prefer.  I ride it to Boston every couple of weeks and feel like I can continue on to Maine with little effort.

The triple is SWEET.  It's so much smoother than the monster twin right off the line.  I've thought abuot upgrading the exhaust but it pretty nice at the high rpms.

It's a good point about the track.  I haven't been but would like to eventually.  Assuming I'm getting a knee down, would the cans really interfere?

I do like the look of the hi-mounts.  I always liked the look of underseat exhausts-- like a jet or rocket ship.  But I also like the look of the open rear wheel below the seat.  Put a nice short hugger on and it's a great look. 

As it was pointed out, it also hides the cheap swingarm.

That's whey I reallly like the SSSA on my Triumph with the under seat exhaust.

so NH for DIMBY would be no problem....there's already precedent for riding in on a Trumpet.   You only get a little grief for not being on a Duc...just until we get distracted by someone's fork reflectors or our glasses are empty.

Yea, that was my point too.  The low mounts hide the ugly dss.
