Ok so  last week after riding I noticed something flapping in the wind by my feet....

there is a tube **see attached pictures 3rd one is probably useless** that comes out of the lower part of the bike... I dont know much about bikes ... but assistance would be helpful.  The bike has only 490 miles on it and this happened around 400/415 -

Performance hasnt been hampered, nothing is leaking from the tube... thanks for your help in advance

no worries, its a vent hose for your emissions canister.

Nothing "happened" per se. Its usually tucked up somewhere. It probably wiggled lose somehow during a ride.

How do you fix it? You remove the emissions canister.  [thumbsup]

Here are some threads about the canister and removing it. I believe Raux removed it from his 696. He might be able to give you some 696 specific pointers.

If you don't feel like removing it, I believe you can just tuck that hose back. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

what does it do? nothing important

how did it happen?  who knows

how do you fix it? just take it (and the emissions canister) off

thanks

read this for a how to on emissions can removal. it looks like you have a 696, but the basics remain the same.

if you decide not to remove the emissions can, you should probably re attach that hose. most likely it goes to the vertical throttle body. the above link shows a picture of where it is supposed to attach. if you dont, you are likely to end up with a real lean running bike.

hope that helps [thumbsup]

It isnt as painful to the eye on the 696, so i would just tuck that tube back in there and leave it alone.

Supposely it makes the world more greener. But realistically,  i dont know what it does. It just takes the extra vapors from your tank and filters it though a charcoal filter. Thats what it look like atleast.

that's the vent tube out of the charcoal canister. it tucks up underneath the front of the engine near the starter.

the canister is the catch for the vent from the gas tank and the throttle body breathers.

the basic premise is the gas vents to the charcoal, is stored there and then is sucked in by the throttle bodies. that way the gas doesn't vent directly to the air (it's a california emissions requirement - CARB)

you can remove the canister, plug the throttle body breathers and reroute the gas vent by adding a 'y' to the overflow tube from the filler cap. that is of course unless you live in california

if you want to do it i can give you more details.

if not just tuck the tube back under the front (use the other tube or a tie wrap so it wont come out again.

seriously no harm on this one.
