A little while back I was having serious issue getting into neutral, it would not go.  A friend came over and bled my clutch line, which resulted in a lot of air coming out, and some teeny tiny black specs from the master cylinder...........instant fix!  Now, lever is all mushy again, and it's barely actuating the clutch.  Bonwilder rode it to Hurst yesterday and said she had to hold in the brake and clutch while in traffic, or it would try and run forward on her, and she couldn't find neutral.  I just took it to the gas station and killed it twice because the clutch was so short.  You have to be on the throttle before even barely letting out on the clutch, or it will jump.....no play in it at all.  Where should I begin??!!??

Hmm check the clutch slave cylinder for leaks

i'd try bleeding it again, just to be sure.  that's about the cheapest thing to do to start with.

i dont know what kinda bike youre getting, but if its a i4, youre gonna need a new hobby, all that extra time youll have because youre not tooling.

Tommy,

When we went to Arkansas, that was the problem I was having with the ST4S.  When I got home I bled the clutch and It is now working like buttah.

Bleed it again.  If it recurs, consider rebuilding the slave cylinder then the master cylinder.  I just had a conversation with RichD about the rebuild process.  He has a kit to rebuild the master cylinder.

buttah is good [thumbsup]

I will bleed it again, if it continues to fail down the road, i'll pick up an after market slave.

I think that's the way to go. Seems like a simple piece of hardware but they don't have a great reputation.

sometimes just pumping the clutch will help

all I know, is I sat in traffic for almost an hour - never getting out of first gear - unable to put the bike in neutral - I was kinda pissed, so when traffic finally started moving I contained myself at about 90, very politely splitting traffic and thinking f'it, just freakin pull me over cause I've got about 5 miles left before I have to park this thing in the garage. [thumbsup] [moto]

Bonnie,

I don't know if your clutch problem was worse than mine on the ST4S during the AR trip.  It was impossible to find neutral when I came to a stop but as I was rolling to a stop, if I had enough room, I was able to get neutral.  Bleeding the brakes solved my problem for now.  I'll have to ride it some more to see if the problem comes back.
