Can anyone tell me the gauge of the starter wire for an '05 S4R (desmoquattro)?  It's approximately 7mm in diameter.

Thanks,
  Dave

My '07 S4Rt looks like about 6 gauge but mat be 8 gage, measures 0.275" including insulation.   Use  at least THHN as it has a thinner insulation and is rated 90°C.  May want to use a finer strand than std 19 as std might be too stiff to easily route.

Whoops. Im converted the mm to inch wrong.  :(

I went own to look at the wire. I currently have a #6 on mine. 7mm diameter including insulation. figure 5mm of wire only.

These people may be able to help you.  They make upgrade kits for the older bikes.  My guess is the kit may fit yours.  Give them a call.

10 minute job.  A guy at the electronic supply shop gave me the wire!  Two connectors and I was ready to go.  Very easy mod, and cheap too.  Afterward, I re-routed the fuel lines.

what gauge did you end up using Dave?

6 gauge.  I shoulda done this a long time ago.  It was beyond easy, looks better, and allows easier removal of the belt covers.
