Damage report

Looking over my bike today. Surprisingly enough, the damage isn`t that bad. I was able to make a three hour drive home on it. The midpipe is bent on the bottom. I was wondering if I could just cut out the bad section (its only about three inches) and weld in a new piece. The shifter linkage is bent a little and I may be able to bend it back but would rather replace the piece. My one day old gas tank is destroyed, but I have my old one which just needs the hinge welded. My friend can do the welding for me. It has a dent but I can live w/ it. I need a new set of bars. I was thinking about getting clip ons anyway or find someone who wants to get rid of a pair of stock ones cheep. Some new ebay mirrors, they worked pretty good for $30, and an Arrow Ti can, this will probably be the most expensive piece. The old one is dented and the bottom where it connects to the pipe is cut. Is it posible to chop them from the back end instead of from the tip? I don`t think it can but If so I can save it. I also need a left side peg as I borrowed a passenger one after the first incident. I guess once wasn`t enough for me.

If you want bars just a little lower, I've got a Rizoma bar in black that's collecting dust.

It can be yours for real cheap. [thumbsup]

Sooo your saying you can ride again soon?  ;)  I was thinking about how awesome the hamptons can be around this time of year when nobody is out there ;D

If you decide on clip-ons, I think you'll love them.

Sorry to thread-jack but that is such a good make the beast with two backsing idea GL! Taking a girl out to the Hamptons now on the bike would be sweet. Or even out to the Vineyards out in Long Island in Green Point, and up at the FInger Lakes near Watkins Glen, near Corning, Seneca Lake. Damn that sounds like a nice trip if anyone wants to take a lady for a ride.

I'd have the bike looked at by a Ducati shop. Make sure everything else is good to go on the bike. Don't wanna assume it is all gravy.

Mook, if you can track down one of those rivet straps to replace the damaged one, you can chop you can down no prob. As I mentioned to you on Sunday, that's what I did to the Termi's I had on the old Monster (just cause I wanted'em LOUD!). You'll have to drill out the rivets on both ends, chop the damaged part off (near the mid pipe right?), then rerivet the connector pipe and end cap back on except flipped. You'd want to chop first, then drill out the rivets, this'll make the job easier. I've got a chop saw that can do the job, you'd just have to buy a new metal cutting blade, my are worn out...

Oh, and clip ons? More weight on the front...  [thumbsup]

May end up going that way. Or just get tommy`s Rizoma`s.

GC thanks for the offer. I have a saw that will do it. Just gotta get a blade. Would you recomend and abbrasive blade? I could probably find some stainless straps pretty easy,  may not be as fancy as the OE ones but wouldn`t look bad. I wasnt sure if the whole can comes off or just then end cap. I`ll look into this further as we talked about making them shorter anyway before all of this.

Still need and answer about the header. I don`t see why i just can`t cut out the damaged part and weld in a new one. I don`t think this bike had an O2 sensor there. I can not find any wires and it doesn`t look like there is one in there that is broken off.

We`ll see. I hope so. Still have to battle the GF. She`s making threats, and yelling at me at this moment for looking at parts on ebay.

or should i just go through insurance. My deductable is $500 and I have full coverage. I would rather not have it on my record.

GF fights with me too sometimes but she knows i'm going to do it regardless of her opinion on it so she shuts up about it most of the time.  if i want to do something i'm going to do it and nobody is stopping me heh

For insurance thats your call i say do the math and see how much it really is gonna cost you to fix the bike from what you are saying it seems like everything can be fixed VERY cheaply.  So personally i would not even consider insurance.

Insurance will probably total that bike, though there are ways to get around it.  I did.  I agree with Count Greffi, a pro should look at the bike before you start putting money in it.  You live on LI, correct?  If so, stop by Chronic.   http://www.chronicmotorsports.com/default.aspx?pageid=1   They can help with insurance advice also.

Oh, the header.  Welding it is possible, but will probably cost more than you think.  I would look at used first.

Thanks Howie

I`m going to bring it there soon. I would rather not use insurance but I`m going to check into it. I just wanted to see how much it would cost to just repair it myself. I just picked the bike up from them two days before this all happened. New gas tank and all. After the crash I drove it home on a three hour ride and it was fine. It tracked straight, The Shifter stuck every once and a while but I just noticed that it was bent. It`s not leaking any fluids.

My friend can weld the header for me if I can get the right diameter pipe. It is on a pretty straight part. I would rather replace it though.
Anyone know what model or years header fits a 2002 750. There is one on ebay but it`s a 98 I think.

Sorry to hear about the mishap.  Give me a call at the the shop,  I may be able to piece some take off stuff together for you,  may not be mint but most of the stuff was free to me so will be free to you  ;D  Hopefully some of it will fit your bike.
