well the scene selection feature by itself makes it better than VHS. I wasn't arguing that.

all I'm saying is when i watch quality porn (i.e. something i would actually pay for) i want to imagine that she is perfect. i don't want to see makeup caked on and all the pores and ass zits that i wouldn't be able to tell were there if it was in standard def. seeing all of that will just ruin the fantasy, do you want to ruin my fantasy?

My parents still have a Beta that works. Few cassettes too. Every once in a while when there's too many things they want to watch at the same time it will still get used to record stuff.

Saw a great interview the other night on Charlie Rose with Sony chair Sir Howard Stringer.

Mr Stringer was saying that for the Blu-Ray platform to launch successfully Sony needed to integrate it with all of their divisions (motion picture, dvd, consumer electronics, ps3 etc). It was the first time that they all worked in unison. Sony's reputation was on the line and could not survive a "Betamax 2."

I remember the VHS/Beta deal reasonably well.  I remember my father going on about how Beta was better.  I remember working in TV and seeing beta cameras.  But I have never heard anyone actually state why Beta was 'obviously superior'.  I'm not arguing it, I just want to know why.
