Clutch fluid is getting brown. When does it need to be changed? Anyone know how to change it? I'm thinking a bleeder pump. Any suggestions will be graciously accepted.

you can also turn your bike upside down....

or bleed it, if you want the easy way out.  don't get that shit on any painted stuff though

I bled my clutch on the S4R and 1098s last week.  Pretty sure I completely flushed all the old out while I was adding more.  I just used a 3 ft piece of clear tubing that RichD hooked me up with so I could see the air bubbles and new fluid being ran through.  Come over sometime and we can do yours.

So, it's just a gravity thing then huh? I talked to John McAuley my friend that came on the ride to Muenster, he said he uses a pump to make sure there is no air getting in. I've talked to others and they say the same thing you're saying T just let it run through and then cap it. I may be over in the morning. Andi is going B-day shopping for herself and leaving me to fend for myself. [clap] I have some fluid. What else?

no bueno my friend, I work 6-7 days a week, I usually don't get home till after 2:30 pm on weekends.  Afternoons only, but I could help you out tomorrow evening or Sunday morn/aft/eve....either way.

it's really simple, man.  once you see it done once you've pretty much mastered it.  bryant walked me through it a long while back...it only takes a few minutes, and fairly little amount of DOT4.  you don't even need a pump...just a combination of pumping the clutch lever and opening/closing the nipple valve.  it's helpful to have a second person, though.

but seriously, all you need to do is hook up the tube...let it run to some kind of container, and pump the clutch, hold, loosen the valve slightly for a second or two, close the valve, pump the clutch, hold it in, loosen valve, tighten, and repeat.  if it hasn't been done in a long time you may just want to completely flush all the old stuff out.  DOT4 is cheap anyway.

Rich, Thanks dude,

There you go. That is precisely what I need to do is a full on change. OK I think I got it. That'll give me something to do while watching the Texas-OU game in the morning. Ah yeah....send the wife out shopping, light up a cigar, crack a cool one, flip the channel on the TV's get all the games going, and sit down to wrench the bike. God, I love this country!

Pick up a can or two of brake cleaner aerosol I f you don't have some already.  Makes for quick cleanups of that paint eating brake fluid, and just generally handy to have around.  Clutch fluid seems to have a habit of turning dark very frequently, so plan on bleeding/flushing a couple of times a year.  When I got my bike, with only 140 miles on it, it was already dark!
