True, but some of us have found that 2 bikes in the garage is the best compromise.  I've found the high speed handling of ADV bikes to be unacceptable, and the Terra would certainly be no exception.  It's not a do-it-all bike.  As much as I like it, it wouldn't even be on my list for a South America trip.  Can anyone seriously tell me they would choose the Terra Mostro over a KTM 640 Adventure or a BMW F650GS Dakar to ride to Guatamala?

Well the KTM and the BMW are hideous... but for functionality you're probably right.

I live about 3 miles from where those are built (Brentwood/Antioch CA) and have seen a few around town (test rides?).  I think they're pretty damn neat looking; an interesting combination of design themes in one bike.  The KTM may be the wiser choice, but the TM has a much more special look to it in person.  I am a sucker for a red trellis frame though...

I wonder if they reinforced the hinges on the tank?  I don't think even a plastic street tank could take the offroad pounding.

Sorry to come so late to this thread, but I spend most of my time on ADVRider.

Having picked it up over a dozen times, I can safely say... it's not too heavy.  Shoot, it practically bounces back up  ;)

I had the street tires on this past weekend... put on close to 600miles to-from Frederick, MD... zero interstate.  ;D  I took the Total Control course with my wife.  With the stock wheels on, I call it the "mini-motard".  Fun, fun, fun.  Will post some photos later... (the wife brought the camera to work).

We met some other members from here at a gas stop somewhere in MD... they took some photos and said they would post them which is why I was checking here.

Knobbies go back on for the Pine Barrens 300 next weekend.

Little bit more similar, engine size wise, my '99 F650, once I got the suspension set up the way I liked it (Ohlins, RaceTech, Jesse bags, etc) was around $12,500, in '99 bucks, and the Mostro I'm sure is a LOT more bike.

Yes!  I had a DR650 before this, as tweaked as that bike can get power & suspension-wise, and my wife rides an F650GS.  The TM has about 50% more power than either of those bikes, and the suspension rocks.  We also have two DRz 400's (with all the power mods) that we keep out west and ride almost entirely off road.  We just got back from riding those for two weeks straight, and the first time I got back on the TerraMostro and cracked the throttle I nearly peed myself.   [laugh]

I think the closest factory bikes to compare it to are the KTM950SE, or the BMW HP2... both are larger displacement bikes though.  If KTM released the 690 Enduro here, that might be in the same class.  Not a twin, though.  Plus, the Terra Mostro comes with the stock wheels for an easy motard conversion.  [evil]

And you're right about the price... it's significantly less than the HP2.  If you save all your receipts and want to be depressed, add up everything you've spent modding your bike... I did that for the DR650 and couldn't believe it... had to do the math over again.  :o.  My TM was built for me with the options I wanted.  Cost and value aren't necessarily the same thing.

Thanks for stopping by and talking Dirt Monster. All I think I've heard regarding the TM is conjecture and what is said on their site. It's awesome to hear from someone who actually has and rides one. A very unique Monster experience even amongst a brand known for uniqueness.  [thumbsup]

With my budget I would get a xcountry for the off/on road ability (If I had to buy a do all bike).
