I'm on the phone today with a girl at the building department for a nearby town - short version - she needs more info for a plan review she's doing.

Me: No problem; can I send you a pdf to attach to what you already have?
Her: (pause) ahh, yeah... you can send a pdf.  (this girl is under 30)

So I send off an email.  All the other people in the department are first initial, last name and the town's web address so I followed that format.  And it bounces back undeliverable.  So I call to get her e-mail.  She doesn't have one.  Wait, what?  She's not a temp - been there for 3-4 years at least.

What's up with people not having e-mail at a government job?  Or not knowing what a pdf is?  Having spoken to this girl of a couple other occasions I know she isn't exactly the shiniest penny out there, but she continues to surprise me.

As much as I'd enjoy the 50 mile ride since it's such a nice day, I can't really justify it for a revised panel schedule.  But yeah, face time is about the only way to get anything moving along or to get anyone to understand the most basic concepts.  It's funny how advanced some of the locals are over others - one just went to electronic submittal on everything except the plan set itself.  They're down with PDF's.  ;D Though I can't guess why everything could not just be PDF.
