When I was a kid in the mid 70's I saw a Norton Commando pass by my house.  I didn't know anything about motorcycles, but I knew that bike sounded cool.  I didn't know the bike I saw was a Norton until about 10 years later when I saw another one.  Anyways the way that bike looked influenced what I thought a motorcycle should look like and be.  The Ducati Monster is my present day equivalent of that Commando.

So I would love to see more from the Norton company.  I hope they can pick up where Kenny Dreer's company left off, but I am skeptical.  This is a bad time to be coming out with a new motorcycle.

Rotory street bikes would kick ass.

They wouldn't sound as good though.  I had a 69 Commando Fastback & I loved it. I like to think of my M900 as a kind of reincarnation of that bike. It's so good that you don't know what you've got until it's gone. Whatever ...... I don't think the rotory will cut it in the long run.
No modification goes unpunished. Memento mori.  Good people drink good beer.  Things happen pretty fast at high speeds.

It's all up to your will level, your thrill level and your skill level.  Everything else is just fluff.

Many, many years ago I rode an atlas. Made the rounds of ownership amongst all my neighborhood friends and then fell into my hands for a summer. Still think about that bike.

When I moved to NYC there seemed to be a bunch of Norton riders in the lower east side that would always hang out at the 67th street sidewalk cafe'. I'd go out of my way to cross the street and gawk at those beauties. All of them were dark with straight bars. Nice.

Why don't the brits manufacture toasters?

They haven't figured out how to make them leak oil! Old MG owners joke.

That's pretty cool. Good luck to them, I'd like to see them back in action.  [thumbsup]

I love Nortons and have a pretty red 75-850 in my garage with over 100,000 miles on it and although it needs some work, it runs fine. Thank God for Boyer ignitions.  [thumbsup] If that invention alone had come along earlier it might have saved a Brit cycle or two from the dust bin of Moto history.

The twin rotor Nortons were quite the shit on the track and the street a few years back. I'm sure there's plenty of life left in the design. It will depend in part on what displacement they interpret it as being that will tell part of the tale on the track. They are pretty thirsty too I think, but probably not too much worse than a 4V Duc.

My association with Norton goes back to 1968 when a guy in my high school got a 750 Atlas. It would leave another friend's 650 Bonnie for dead - I was impressed as I thought the Bonnie was the shit. Years later that same used bike came close to killing me and several of my close biker friends. [moto]

We had a friend in the mid 70's who I witnessed piloting around Charlotte Motor Speedway at just over 140 mph outrunning 900 Kaw fours and hopped up Honda fours on the banking - make the beast with two backsing WOW! When someone said they should protest his victories someone else said it's no use, there's nothing you can do legal otherwise to make one of those things go that fast. ;D

I hope to see them make a go of it. This ain't a good time to be starting a venture like this in most places around the globe. Good luck to em - they'll need it.

I want a Norton Commando so bad.  I love the way this bike looks!! [beer]

1999 Monster 900 City - Sold

After 7 years of Monsters, I'm sadly bikeless right now.

You know what would be the shit? Having the twin rotors counter-rotate in relation to each other. The rotating mass will not affect chassis dynamics. Similar theory as the Motoczysz engine.

Each spring there's a Norton show at one of the state parks.  I drool, drool some more, and drool the entire time I'm there.  The park exit takes you back to the start of a straight away, and you should hear these bad ass bikes ROAR!!!   [bow_down]   Totally worth the day!

+1 on wanting the commando!
