Fret not, my friends. Elections weren't meant to give everyone everything they want. And as long as you come away with something and don't lose too much, you're better off than before. And remember: this is a blip in time. Peoples' attitudes change as time goes on. It's a marathon, not a sprint.

A storm is brewing and it's not over. Even though logic tells me so, it's hard to remain calm and not somewhat enraged. It's sure a pisser when people can take away rights just because they don't like something. [bang] [bang] [bang]

I had thoughts along similar lines. There's usually a backlash against folks fighting for rights via the courts. That's what happened with the Civil Rights movement and its victories in the courts, but those were supplemented with a grassroots movement that ultimately led to legislative and societal change as well. Still, there was a backlash. There's plenty of finger-pointing going on, but in ten, maybe fifteen years, society's attitudes will change. Like I said...it's a marathon, not a sprint. It requires engagement and consensus-building, instead of abrasive politicians preaching to the faithful. And it requires that we as Americans understand that there's a difference between our personal religious beliefs and our national identity. That's not something that'll happen overnight.

Absolutely true. For every social movement there's an equally strong backlash and unfortunately this one really motivates religious people. But what's ridiculous is if your religion says marraige should be in a certain way, what about all the people who don't believe in Christian marraige? Do atheists "threaten" good, moral Christian marraiges too? What about Muslims, Hindus, Budhhists, and Judiasm? Christians have been trying to politicize their religion in this country for far too long. Everybody should be allowed to believe how they want that's why we have seperation of church and state. In America, a religion-less state, we care more about religion than in many industrialized countries.

Christians have been trying to politicize their religion.

I truly think you're mistaken, when you say this as a blanket statement.  I think we all need to look up the word "religion" again.  It is a series of beliefs.  If you believe an amoeba started this whole crazy thing called life, then that shapes and forms your "religion."   I mean there's even a "religion" for the Sacred Mushroom.  Really, look it up.  They're out of Switzerland or somewhere.  Anyways, don't fool yourself into thinking that no one other than Christians are politicizing their beliefs.  Whatever you center your life around, whether it's one God, two gods, your bike, your job, your significant other, some social issue, that's what shapes your thoughts and motivates your actions and therefore forms your "religion"

Sheesh, I was originally looking up a wiring diagram and then saw this....see what happens when bikes become religious... [laugh]

You can't fight intolerance with intolerance guys... Not all agree with that, but I really think it's true..

Believe whatever you want, but don't tell everyone else how to believe.

And not all Christians are intolerant, I never suggested that.

Jeez... I thought I was clear. Yeah, let's go back to talking about rides and motorcycles [laugh]

Not trying to be a wise guy, but is anyone surprised this thread is going in this direction?  I mean, I saw the OP on Tues. and knew it was bound to get a little feisty.
It's hard keeping those religious views inside.....again, not being sarcastic or intolerant about any view.

I'm planning on going...Dave may be out of town, so I might have to test out bikes for him.

If it fits me, it won't work for him. [cheeky]
