Wow! :o I've been so busy studying that I haven't been reading the boards.  [bang]

So sorry to hear about this incident, but at the same time, I'm very happy that Girlrider is doing fine. Heal well Girlrider! Let me know when you decide to purchase another bike. I planning another purchase sometime in the next few months. :) Let's go shopping when you feel better. [moto] Did you read about the new Monster 1100? ;D

Hey everyone and thanks for all of the prayers for Maria.  Sorry I haven't been able to post up sooner, but I know she is very sore but in good (and thankful) spirits.  The emergency crew, witnesses, AMS-D, Parkland staff deserve kudos for their outstanding attention and care.  Also, Kudos for Maria's riding skill and gear.  Although we all know she was being watched over from above, gear made the difference between getting home by 5pm after walking out on her own and who knows what else.  She braked significantly and let go of the handle bars upon impact, which I am sure saved her from more broken bones.

A witness I spoke to Saturday night said she landed flat on her back and apparently the impact to the back of the helmet was enough to make the chin vent on her Arai pop out and of course, one of those damn side pods came off, but they are the achilles heel of the Arai line anyway.  A noted Arai expert (aka Pete at Motoliberty) said it would take a pretty good hit to make the chin out.  The bike, well I wouldn't say the frame is cracked, more like broken as there is a half inch gap between the two tubes and the stem tube and the front fender is dented where it hit the oil cooler.

On a lighter note - there was a slight breeze on Saturday and if it hadn't been for that, she would have landed on her feet for the "tada" moment.  I think watching back to back Dirty Harry movies Saturday night helped her feel a bit better, but I know she was visited by the achy bruise monster yesterday and could always use 3 or 4 men around the house to help out.  :D

The only reason she was there was to pick up my CRG mirrors and bar end adapters
but she was delayed at my yard sale, otherwise she would have been home an hour earlier!  The CRG's made it through without a scratch -she had them in the front of her jacket, which is why she made every effort to land on her feet or back  [cheeky]  I believe they are back on the market and they command a higher price because they now have a story behind them!

Yep, those mirrors have just gone up in price due to their notoriety and current fame!! [laugh] Let's see what Maria gets next, she still might be able to use them. [moto] [clap]

Ouch, Maria, I just realized I never responded to your email about the police report! S#@t! Sorry, I'll look into tomorrow if you still need me to. In my best Italian mob accent, "I knowz a guy who knowz a guy". [wine]

Hi - typing one handed so forgive the mistakes.  Wow - what an outpouring of concern and affection!   Thank you all for your love.  Every day is better - although today I realize my pretty teeth are sore bc I must have chomped down hard at some point!  I was pretty freaked out in the trauma ward bc I kept asking "how bad am I?" and the doctors all huddle and whisper on the side corners but they would run tests and turn and say "its okay honey that was good test".  Also numerous male nurses and a chief of staff that all ride motorcycles kept coming in to hold my hand (I might have been crying) and tellme and everyone else "she was wearing gear, she was wearing gear."

Keith found me a few hours into the examination and stayed with me through discharge.  I cannot tell you how sweet the air smelled when I got out of Parkland.  Pete and Susan Gould then got to my hp\ouse and they all babied me and didnt leave until past midnight - I kept asking them  if "I was going to die in my sleep?" and didnt want to fall asleep - I'm not ki'ddi'ng it was such a close call.

I'm on with Foremos Insurance and they will get with AMS today.

All my love - ps -  personal email is maria.a.sproul@verizonbusiness.com

Good Lord, I have missed some important happenings.

Maria, I'm glad to hear that you're OK.  The world would definitely be a darker place without your humor.  Get well soon.

High above the muckey muck...

Girlrider

Thank you all - I spent the day doing the Doctor rounds and now have a manageable splint on my right wrist so typing is not as tragic!  Interesting things I have learned:
1. The insurance investigator asks "do you have an MC on your license?" and I answer "If you mean am I licensed to pilot a Motorcycle, YES, and I do hope that Foremost is asking these questions out of concern for me and not your pocketbook."  In effect, my analysis is that they would not pay off on anything if I wasn't officially licensed!
2.  I always wondered why my policy seemed so high compared to others when swapping insurance information with friends.  Well, come to find out I am covered up the Whazoo.  I have Uninsured coverage to $100k for all out of pocket and pain and suffering, and I also have a neat clause where because I bought the bike new, had it insured with them from day one, and am original owner under 24 months (I got it in Feb 2007) well guess  what?  They have to replace the bike - yessiree, all of it.  They have to give me a brand new S2R 800 - oh wait guess what they don't make that anymore!  So, it will be interesting to see what they come up with, but at the least I do not have to settle for blue book values with depreciation.

So to all my smart Ducatisti friends on this board, let my hard earned lessons help you make solid decisions.  And oh yes, thank god for Arai helmets that are worn correctly and constantly because I wouldn't be making any sense right now if it wasn't for that baby.

Love,

M

Outstanding news that you are fine and getting a new bike through your insurance! So, when are we all going shopping for a new toy?
Are you planning to go to the Motorcycle show this weekend? I'll be taking the Dart rail from the Parker station if anyone else is comming from Plano. PM me if interested and we can ride there together via rail. :)

Maria, that is really great news about you and your bike.  Thanks for the update!  It is also really cool you plan on still riding a street bike - getting right back on the $&#@ing thing, in fact.

Girl, you rock  [bow_down]

Now, when are we shopping for new gear and bikes?   [evil]

I'm sure Jeff will help you build a case that a Monster 1100 or that last S4RS Tricolore with a full Arrow or Termi system is the "next closest thing" to the 800.   [moto]
