after seeing a pic of another guys s2r, i deffently want to buy this kit but it calls for cutting the rear part of the frame that extends past the tail of the bike... how much would i be looking at to get this done? also once you cut the frame how do you keep it from rusting or does it need to be repainted at that point?  i dont know if im geting in over my head or is this not as bad as im thinking?

oh yeah pics for clicks.

now i wish i bought a black one

OK, first off I am a "don't do the tail chop" kinda person. Here comes the 10,000 people that disagree!!!! It's all a matter of taste. They are welcome to it. [thumbsup] Personally I like the "beer tray". Especially in the DP no frame cut/standard length carbon fiber flavor that Ducati offers. OK, let the millions that disagree chime in!! [clap]

This is a do it yourself thing.  Scott has the unique distinction of doing a tail chop using a dull 5 inch long plastic light duty saw which broke but that didn't stop him.  He cut it off anyway with half a saw and would have broken it off with his teeth if he had to.  It eventually yielded to Scott because he would not be denied.

He has the broken hacksaw as a trophy of his triumph.  Mind over steel.  [bow_down]

Anyway, several people have done this on their bikes and I'm sure with the proper tools and beer, you'll get all the help you need.  Especially drinking your beer!  [thumbsup]

After what I said, let me add that Fastwin, myself, CJ and I think Dosgatos have elected not to maim our bikes as that would be too cruel.  [evil]

Let the flames begin.......

But if you did, offer beer and the masses will come.   ;D

haha thats cool, I wish it was just a unscrew the plastic kinda job and if i want to put it back i could lol  I have a saws-all and such so i dont think i would run into the problems of the other install your talking about...

another question about the structural integrity that part of the frame dosnt effect anything on the bike i am assuming

oh about the pictured bike... running no mufflers like he is, besides being loud how does it effect performance?

No flames here - if every monster looked the same - that would just be boring.  That being said - just get a kit and chop the tail.  We cut the frame and colored the raw edges with a sharpie marker (I know this may cause me to be an unreliable source of information on the topic but it is what it is).  We plugged the frame with 20gage shot gun shells.  It looks hot.  Just do it.  Your bike will thank you - really.  I would post a pic of my own tail chop, but I don't know how to do that sort of thing and I am kinda sleepy. That being said - if you wanna have a mod party then post up and I will be there to help out!    :-*

I highly recommend the tail chop. Chicks dig it.  [thumbsup]

No, the cut you make with a hacksaw is on the other side of the rear weld.  The tail-chop doesn't affect the structural integrity of the bike at all.  It just sexes it up!   [thumbsup]

As far as rusting goes... just take some touch up paint from autozone and paint the raw steel.  If you use the Comp Werkes kit, it comes with pretty frame plugs to snap in over the holes once the paint dries.  I can't speak for the other kits.  I used CW myself.

Yep, easy mod.  Here's a pix of mine:

The only real "downside" is that the stock frame length will accomodate a wide variety of side bags; so you're limiting your choices if you think you're ever going to use luggage.

As far as the no exhaust can goes, you'll for sure need to have it re-tuned.  It's also going to be loud enough to wake the dead...

Like Chris said, It's a one time deal and no going back.  Another thing to consider is that some aftermarket exhausts may look too long after the chop.  Others are shorter and look good enough.

just save the frame once you chop it off...and if you're worried about resale value for when/if you want to sell the bike, you can just weld it back on.  don't ask how i know.

and the bracket is pretty straightforward, i think Jason (a13bpilot) made his on his monster.

awsome yeah ill prolly end up doing it next pay check..  I also read a pipe cutter that you roll around the tube will work better and not score the paint so thats prolly what ill use since i have one of thoes handy too...    I am not worried about luggage at all either... I think its a go,  But im going to wait till have have some spare cash for the kit along with maybe some new turn signals  since it will most likely be this week or next i have to take the bike in for the 600mile service and such as well...

The pipe cutter will work but depending on how much you chop it may not clear all the way around. IMO a good old hacksaw and masking tape are the best way to go. Mask off the frame and you'll be in business. [thumbsup]

Yup, it worked well for DLS on Lyndy's bike.  [thumbsup]
