Low Idle, Can this cause Problems/Damage?

G'day all

As some of you may or may not no, I have been having some problems with a Termi upgrade kit being fitted about 8 weeks ago and it was only properly finished and the bugs fixed as of last week.

The kit is all fitted and now running very well with no cough's and farts and I am so far very happy, but the Idle is now sitting about 1000 rpm, it will idle when cold, and when very hot it will sometimes climb to 1100 rpm

With the idle sitting 200 rpm below Ducati's preferred 1200 rpm spec, can this cause issues or damage due to poor oil flow or circulation?
Or any other problems I may be unaware of?
Thanks everyone.

Shouldn't be a big deal as long as the idle doesn't "hunt" or the oil light comes on, BUT it can usually be corrected by adding some air via the bleeds at idle (mine was lower than normal after its 7500mi service and would start hunting when warmed up). I took mine back after the service and the tech added some air at idle via the air bleed screws and it was back to normal.

EDIT: I should also have stated that this will NOT mess with your "tune". It is an idle only adjustment.

I'm not totally useless, I can be used as a bad example!

If you start getting very low the oil pressure is not sufficient to lubricate the engine, even if the light doesn't come on.  My guess is that at 1000 your probably just fine.  Still, getting the TPS reset, idle speed set, and TB's balanced probably isn't that expensive and will make your bike run loads better if you do it.

This is the only minor problem I'm having since the all the dick around getting the Termi sorted out, they reset the TPS and the like. (it has been an 8 week saga getting this Termi kit right)

I think the dealer is reluctant to fiddle around with the bike because it is running really well in every other aspect, it's great on fuel and has a decent power lift compared to stock.

I made a quick adjustment using the cable adjuster (I always adjust my cable so there is no slack in the cable anyway), not the ideal way to lift the idle (waiting for a pants down spanking from Brad Black  ;D)  but it so far seem to be hovering around 1200 rpm and not moving when it's hot or cold.

Don't do that!  If it runs fine at 1000-1100 and the dealer is the one who set it then leave it there.  Don't go rigging your idle speed with the throttle cable.

I agree with Scott.  The only reason why I would do that is as an emergency temporary fix.  Also keep in mind, your bike tach is less accurate than a piece of professional test equipment.

Thanks guys, left as is, I spoke to the dealer, he echoed your comment Howie, he said he set the idle on the DDS, he sets it for 1100rpm, he said my Tacho seems to hover closer to 1000.
He has found many times the Tacho's can be +/- a couple of hundred RPM regardless of if it is a Monster, MultiStrada, 1098, whatever.
So he's happy with where it is running, I'll leave it as is.

Doesn't seem to worry the bike or cause any problems, just used to the slightly higher RPM.

Just like to ask the question, safer than not asking the question and do damage at a later stage.
