UPDATE: Runnin' with the CAT...

So, I swapped out the Termis and Marving header for the OEM CAT/udder (which I painted black for some reason a long time ago).  Damn, are midpipes a pain in the ass to fit!  I'm convinced that's a two-person job.  I did it without loosening the vertical cylinder header.  That might make it more difficult to get the best fit, but those nuts look like a pain in the ass to access.

Anyhoo, I think the bike is a good bit louder with just the udder compared to the Termi/Marving combo.  I might want some baffles for whatever configuration I run, unless I go with the Ex-Box.

So, a couple of questions:

(1) Superjohn - is the Ex-Box baffled?  Do you know how it's volume (dB) compares to that of the udder?  Anyone else know?

(2) I'm thinking of taking the Jeg's Performance exhaust tips and some adapters to Tom to weld.   Would the exhaust tips decrease the volume?

(3) Rameses - do you think you could weld those adapters onto the Jeg's exhaust tips?

Thoughts, comments, suggestions??

You're the one with the PhD.  You figure it out.   :P

It depends on the construction of the exhaust tips as far as baffling goes.  If they are double wall construction with a perfed inner wall, then they will baffle/change the sound slightly.  If they are just a straight pipe, then they probably won't do much.

Unless your putting these on it:  :P

If the Ex-box is baffled, they're not accessible or anything. It does have inner walls inside the box, so it may be.

The volume is (I'm guessing) in the 98 to 102 db range. It's quieter than the termi's on my 900SS, but the SS also has that insanely loud clutch rattling away and my Monster doesn't.

I was going to ride the Monster Sunday if I end up going. We can compare udder vs. ex-box then.

BTW, the SSS looks awesome all exposed like that.  [thumbsup]

Yeah, the Jeg's tips have a perfed liner.  In fact, I just used time-dependent spin operator projection methods coupled with quantum theory which predicts a 3.3673% decrease in volume.   ;D

According to my test, which I performed in a vacuum, the Jegs tips are completely silent.  ;D

Yeah, no problem.

What kind of finish are they?  If it's anything like chrome, it'll be ruined by welding them.

They'll need to be painted or refinished after the adapters are welded on.

I removed all the chrome months ago.   ;D

So, cool lemme know when you have time...I have the welder and stainless.

Okay, cool.

I'll borrow my dad's Speedglass helmet.  You can check it out while I'm over there and it should lend to a higher quality weld too.

P.S. -- In the background of your pic in the first post of this thread, what the hell is with the last item of that list on the whiteboard??   :o

When are you coming over?

Uh...yeah.  Apparently, I need a size large butt plug.  [roll]

Yeah, and here I thought I was a small.

In other news, I put the airbox cover back on and took il mostro out for a 50 mile spin.  Now to check the plugs...it had been running a tad lean.

And it is louder, but a bit more bass!  [evil]

Ahhhh, yesss.  I'm hilarious.   ;D

I traded my Termis for an Ex-Box which arrived yesterday, and needs some welding.  John says he's up to the task, so anyone who wants to come and help/watch is more than welcome.

Hopefully, we'll be working on the bike late morning on Saturday, 11/15, but I'll post up when John picks a time.

I'll paint the Ex-Box after the welding and pop it in the oven for a few hours and install it on Sunday.  If anyone would like to help with the installation, I'd appreciate it.

I'll do what I can to help out. These last few weeks of the semester are always touch-and-go as far as schedules go.
2007 - S4RS - Full termi system, integrated front signals/mirrors, Cox Racing radiator/oil cooler guard, frame sliders, DP tank guard, tinted windscreen, Sergeant Seat, pressure plate, spring retention caps, RCM clutch cover (painted), tail chop, emission removed, reflector removal
IN PROCESS - Rizoma clip-ons, grips and ends, Sodium blasted wheels
