Check out this 900ss review by H.S. Thompson entitled 'Song of the Sausage Creature'.

I saw this a long time ago, but just read it again tonight.  What a great read!

This is definately a derby, but if you haven't seen it, then it's new to you.

Classic. Inspired me from a young age. I named my first Ducati the "Sausage Creature," although that's really something only its rider can becomeâ€"WHACKO!

Such a classic. HST was a cool writer and this article always makes me happy I have a '96 900SS/SP like he reviewed.   [thumbsup]

Nice! Is the gearing anything like he suggests? or was he using a little poetic license?

3rd gear, 75 mph @ 4500 rpm sounds a little extreme. ;D

Always loves that one when it comes up. I was simply amazed the first time I read it... it should be stickied on all Duc forums... I wish HST had made different choices and was still here to write for us. RIP

Have kept that one stored on my hard drive for years, and re-read it every so often when I get the urge.

BTW, there is a decent documentary on his life which came out over the summer.  If anyone is into his writings, check it out.  It paints a pretty real picture, instead of focusing on his caricature-ized persona, including his real demons.  It was produced by Johnny Depp, it's called Gonzo.  Some people didn't like it though.  I felt sad for his pain after seeing it.

The man wrote like no other...
