New Sealed Battery Leaking???

So i bought a new battery today at the local MC shop.  They put in an AGM sealed battery, came out of the box.  He hooked it up and it was dead. They said we just gotta charge it up real quick its been sitting around for a while. So in the back he hooks it up (i couldnt see what he hooked it up to) and about 5 minutes later he tries it again and the bike is cranking over and starts. He said once i get it home ill need to charge it up with my battery tender overnight.

About 15 minutes later while riding it i smell something bad, look down theres battery acid all over. Pull over and lift the tank, battery is leaking acid out of the bottom of the case all over the engine.  Heres my question.

Im thinking he hooked the battery up to a charger that put too many amps in it too quick and it boiled it.  How else would the battery go from nothing (push the starter button and just hear clicks) to charged in literally a few minutes?  ive never heard of a sealed battery leaking like that.

Guess you never read the thread on the puking GS batteries on TOB.  This affected both Ducati and Yamaha.Remove that battery immediately and wash everything down with baking soda to neutralize the acid.  An AGM battery should never leak liquid.  Over charging will open the valves, but only excess gas should come out.  My guess is if he put the acid in the battery he didn't allow sufficient time for the acid to be absorbed by the glass mat or there is a factory defect.  Either way it is his problem.

Same thing happened to me I purchased a new battery and they didn't let it sit long enough to get rid of all the bubbles and it leaked down the side of my bike.So the next one they gave me I filled at home and let it sit overnight and then sealed it,and I haven't had a problem since. Unfortunately it left drool marks on the aluminum.  >:(

+1 - instructions with the battery talk about leaving it sit for something like an hour.

The mechanic didn't charge it.  He forgot to put acid in the first time.  He ran back, poured the acid in, then put the cap on, and then put it in the bike?  Sounds shaddy and you should be pissed  (like new paint pissed if it is stained).
